favorite Steven Spielberg movie?

Not an easy call, but I'll hafta go w/ Indiana Jones (although the new one is just silly, really).

Others that came close were Minority Report, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T., of course.

Wasn't "Duel" with Dennis Weaver his first? The movie about the evil semi-truck that tries to **** Dennis in his little Dodge Dart? I really like that one as well !!

Mine are Jaws, the Indiana Jones films and the Jurassic Park films. I don't mind his other films like ET, Minority Report and War Of The Worlds but I rarley watch those.

Duel was amazing. He never made the mistake of showing us the driver, that would ruin it. Thats exactly what they would do if they'd made the film these days.

yes. saving private ryan is one of the best war movies of all time. jurassic park scared the **** out of me when i was young.

Yep, "Duel" was his first, and it was a 1970 Plymouth Valiant, similar to a Dodge Dart. "Duel" is not only my favorite Spielberg, but one of my top 5 movies ever.

You're right about not making the mistake of showing the driver. This screenshot I had found was the only one I've seen where you actually can see the driver for a split second. I originally posted this in another thread the other day where Facetious and I were talking about this movie.

Not trying to derail this thread to just be about "Duel" but there's another moment when we see the driver - or at least part of him. Not his face, but his arm. I think there's ONE time when he waves Dennis around, to go ahead and pass him, but it's when another semi is coming at full speed.

As for Saving Private Ryan, I liked it, but it came out around the same time as The Thin Red Line, and I saw both of 'em in the theater with my ***, and he and I both agreed that Thin Red Line was a bit better, really.

The greasy rig and its concealed driver represent the evil Halliburton and the corrupt Dick Cheney, respectively, and David Mann is the downtrodden proletariat…OK, I have not actually read that in some self-important leftist hack’s analysis of Steven Spielberg’s 1971 film, but I wouldn’t be surprised if such drivel disgraced the screen of my fabulous 12-inch PowerBook G4 someday while I’m doing some “research” on the Internet. Duel is routinely and rightfully praised as a triumph of minimalist moviemaking, but it is also subject to endless interpretation. Every idiot seems to know the true meaning that lurks beneath the movie’s 90 minutes of Peterbilt/Plymouth rivalry. But who gives a you-know-what?

Actually looking at that list I got to say his name is bigger and better than his movies lol.Duel was OK but nothing that special and the Raiders of the lost ark ones were fun movies but he sure aint no Kubrick.
