Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
I was listening to some Rush stuff today and it struck me that this band never did get the acclaim they deserved way back when. I really like them a lot and have come to appreciate them even more as the years have gone by. I like a lot of their tunes but I'd be interested to know if there is a consensus "favorite Rush song". Personally, I like Working Man best but as I said, they have a lot of really good stuff.

Any Rush fans out there?

One of my favorite bands. That's tough.

I think I will have to go with The Temples Of Syrinx. I like to put on 2112 and play the guitar along to it. After 30 years, I have pretty much mastered that album.

Damn...I should have put an "other" option in there. Oh well....state your case anyway. The Temples of Syrinx choice would indicate you are a true fan....doesn't get much airplay and never did as I recall. Of course, "classic" rock stations are more like top-40 radio these days....they play the same tired old **** all the time.

I really like Tom Sawyer^_^

It's cool. Yes, I am a huge Rush fan. I am also a musician and played in a few hair bands back before I finished my education. I may have had to give up the pursuit of the ***** but never did I lose my love for music. Especially hard rock/metal. I do enjoy jazz fusion and classical also.

I saw them a few times also in the 70's when I was a teen They played it all the time then. They got away from a lot of their older stuff in the 80's and 90's.

I wouldn't take anything for being able to see Rush and Thin Lizzy on the same bill.

Fly by night

It was a toss up between "Closer" and "Spirit" but I opted for "closer".

Rush is definately amongst my all time, top three bands. I go way back with that band, although I dropped off, for reasons unknown, aft "Roll The Bones" release. And don't get me wrong, it wasn't that I didn't care for that release . . I guess that I have some catching up to do. :o

I agree, Jags, RUSH really didn't garner the acclaim that you would think, however, I've heard that question addressed to the band members, on video interviews, and it's a funny thing, as I recall. There expressions didn't change a bit. You would think that you'd get some kind of a sarcastic grin or something of the sort, but no. They revealed a neutral, non arrogant, yet self assured,
"to each his own" • "we don't care to commercialize this band"
"if you're own board great, if not, that's ok too", sort of look on their face, if you will.

other good ones - Red Barchetta , YYZ, The Trees, Jacobs Ladder, Witch Hunt

The single Album release Exit Stage Left is KEY !! as are "
"Permanent Waves" and "Moving Pictures" releases !

Peart lost his only ******** in a solo auto accident and a year after that, his wife died of cancer. Read his book "Ghost Rider" where he gets on his motorcycle and just rides and rides and rides and finds inner peace & healing.

Nice summation

Wow... thanks for the insight, Facetious. I wasn't aware of that. I think Neil Peart is the greatest drummer in the history of rock 'n' roll. I saw the band live this past summer here in Houston and they were as crisp, clean and strong and they ever were. I'll check out the book for sure.

I prefer a song that isnt listed: The Trees ( Premium Link Upgrade )

In all honesty, i never understood why i didn't liked much a band like Rush. They play a style of music i really enjoy, they are great compositors and creatives... Might be something with the singer's voice :dunno:

Typo -

"if you're on board, great, if not, that's ok too",
- couldn't let this one go :o correction made.

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they ****** a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Somewhat Prophetic, Isn't it ?
