ESPN analyst makes silly statement!

If i'm choosing a quarterback to build my franchise around I choose Peyton over anyone but if i'm choosing one quarterback for one Super Bowl...that decision is a little tougher.

I didn't know some people have a magical powers they could call upon to play better in one game.

It's not hilarious to me. An argument can be made either way. Eli has the rings, but if you only go by that you must think Doug Williams was better than Dan Marino.

I'm fairly convinced that there is no Eli Manning. Peyton just went to some special effects company and said "Make a mask that looks like me if I had 3/4 of my brain removed".

Magical powers? What are you reading?

I'm saying that one's skill in a sport is the same no matter what game they are playing in and the differences between certain games is due to natural random variation from game to game that happens in all sports and also due to situations out of that players control. There is no big game winning skill. A worse quarterback is still the worse quarterback no matter what game he is playing in all other things being equal. There is no clutch ability because players would play better already if they could. To think otherwise is illogical enough to almost imply that they player must have virtual magical powers to play better in curtain games.

Basically, when somebody that's worse does better in a small sample of games (or even in a greater number of games), it's because of luck due to being on the fortunate side of random variance, or there being outside circumstances other than their skill that isn't equal (like playing on a better team, playing against easier opponents, or having more favorable matchups, among others) and benefits the worse player more than the other better player, or both.

Rick Reilly is another douche analyst and complete moron!

I don't think players play better in big games, but players can play worse in big games. Pressure is a real thing, with real effects and I think the ability to cope with that pressure is also real.

I'm a Jets fan, but it blows me away that Eli doesn't get the respect from some folks that he deserves.
