It reminds me of how the People living in The Dark Ages of Europe must have felt.
Seeing all the ruined structures of the once great Roman Empire all around them as constant reminders of how good it was, how advanced it was, not long ago, while they lived in filth, pestilence, poverty and disease.
Could this be the future of The USA? Looks like its heading that way.

Re: Dying Detroit: Haunting photos highlight the decline of US's once-great Motor Cit

The City just needs to get their head out and start taking care of shit instead of living in it! Tear down all these broken down former factories and burnt out homes and have a clean slate that will hopefully look inviting to new industry and also it will help with the vagrant problem.
The city needs to reinvent itself and look forward instead of looking back to how great it once was!

This whole country in a slow yet constant decline and if we don't do something soon we will be living in a complete shithole! Our infastructure is crumbling and we are just sweeping it under the carpet, hell lets get people back to work and do what Roosevelt did in the 30's and get this country to undergo a makeover!!

Re: Dying Detroit: Haunting photos highlight the decline of US's once-great Motor Cit

High income taxes, high corp taxes, no incentives to bring in new businesses, failed social welfare programs all contributed to Detroit, Flint, hell Michigan as a whole to be a massive failed state.

There actually is a Hell, Michigan.......

...and yes it freezes over....:)

Anyone who tries to paint Ohio as a blue state has not only never been to Ohio, but pays no political attention to the state.
It would be more apt to describe both Ohio and Michigan as "Purple states", in which both parties seem to continually wrestle control from the others. This in itself can be a problem from any state which is traditionally red or traditionally blue in that instead of moving forward with evolving legislation, both parties are doing nothing but doing away with legislation passed by the previous administrations.

Stan..arguing sense on this is pointless.:2 cents:

Two causes:

1.Relying on one job source.

2.Blue State Social Programs.

3. Automation

4. Unsustainable exorbitantly generous pension plans

Would you be making the same blue state argument if the oil companies which float the red state economies of Texas and Alaska went belly up....After all, ransom each state collects from the oil industry is far worse than anything Michigan has sought from the industries which turn it's economic gears.

The oil industry happily pays it in those states because that's where the business is.

There's no better example of a "man-made catastrophe" than Detroit.

Meg, blacks are leaving the Blue States of Ohio, Michigan, New York, New Jersey etc etc. They are following blacks and whites that have already left.

Good god you're a fucking obsessive.

You just cannot get over the utter irrelevance of somebody's racial background can you? Apparently skin colour is a crucial factor in just about any topic you insist on commenting on

So everyone in Texas works for the oil industry?:1orglaugh Sorry Meg try again. Blue states like Michigan basically punish businesses(and everyone else for that matter). Texas has little red tape to set one up, plus no personal income tax, and reasonable franchise tax. That's why Texas booms.

Why do you think Texas has no state tax and Alaska pays annual dividends to every resident in the state??

Because they 'redistributed the wealth' of the oil companies which operate within their states. Not very red-statish of them would you say??

But of course you knew this...:o

Not everyone in the state of Michigan (or the city of Detroit) worked in the auto industry either...but the demise of the auto industry is directly responsible for the decline of the state and it's largest city that depended on the industry.

Texas and Alaska are sapping the oil companies hard enough to eliminate state taxes in one case and pay annual stipends in another case....what about that is red state??

Predictably when oil prices suffered, those states hit recessions....when oil prices boom so too do those states.

Meg, why is Texas leading Michigan in jobs? Why are university graduates leaving Michigan for jobs elsewhere? Why was there black/white flight from Michigan?
Michigan taxes the crap out of it's citizens. Michigan has done little to create incentives for companies to set up business in their state. Michigan like New York, New Jersey, and Ohio were run by Dems who screwed the pooch with their moronic economic policies.

Wow...talk about thick. You're asking why is Texas leading Michigan in jobs when I just brought up the fact that auto manufacturing, a major organ if not the primary organ in Michigan's economy has taken a nose dive...While the primary engine of the Texas economy has never been more profitable...and you ask, 'why is Texas leading Michigan in jobs'??

Dr. you need a doctor.

You'd think the idiots running things in Michigan would've been successful getting new companies to set up shop. Oh wait, high corp tax, state income tax, unions the typical Blue state garbage brought on by necrotic Democrat/Liberal "Progressive" policy prevents that from happening.

Michigan ranks 17 out of 50 in Tax Foundation's 2011 State Business Tax Climate Index

Michigan was ranked No. 17 in the Tax Foundation's 2011 State Business Tax Climate Index, the same ranking it held last year. Michigan's ranking has risen to 17 from No. 28 in 2006.

The index ranks states according to major business taxes, individual income taxes, sales taxes, unemployment insurance taxes and property taxes.

The 10 highest-ranked states are South Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming, Nevada, Florida, Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware, Utah and Indiana.

http://www.mlive.com/jobs/index.ssf/2010/10/michigan_ranks_17_out_of_50_in_tax_found.html

BTW, the state income tax rate is a flat 4.85 pct....which is lower than many other states...

California has a state income which is double that at the highest progressive rate...higher corp tax but yet is home to the most millionaires in the country.

Can you sit down and shut up now?:dunno:

You left out the fact that certain cities in Michigan impose additional income taxes.

Now you can leave.:hatsoff:
