Has anybody played Traveler before? I'm contemplating getting the fifth edition of it, but don't know how good it would be. From a brief description of it I wasn't blown away by it, but it also didn't seem bad. Other than Star Wars, which is pretty setting specific, and the old d20 Modern and Future stuff, which doesn't have new material made for it, I don't really have any sci-fi futuristic material I can use. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I just bought a couple more books...
...and umm, guess who also ordered four more sets of dice? :1orglaugh
I even got one of those nifty Q-workshop sets, despite preferring dice to be as legible as reasonably possible.
Do you actually get to play with your toys or do you just collect them? ;-)
I collect the dice, because really, you can't have too many dice. It's also nice to have a good set of dice for each type of game or situation.
As for the other stuff, I admit it's been a few years since I have played. The good news is at work I have found quite a bit of people that actually play table top RPGs. I was kind of surprised, and things look promising on that front even if some of us would have to travel 30 miles. Even more than that I also just need to go a little longer in the job I have now to get more job security, and maybe if I'm lucky more pay, where I can feel safe affording a good internet connection again, and maybe get a medical problem with my eye fixed. Where I'm at there is no cable or DSL so I'm pretty much ****** to get an expensive cellular system with a long contract or maybe they will get that WiMax system out here soon like they are talking about, that way I won't also be stuck with some 5 gigabyte a month limit. (I refuse to get satellite internet because it's a complete rip off.) Either way it's not very cheap and I can't back out of it without it costing me big. Once that happens, relatively hopefully soon, I will be able to play over the internet on a virtual table top and get back in the game like I used to.
You should set up a monthly game so those that live at quite a distance don't have to travel weekly, but you still get some gaming done. ;-)

so, im gettting handed the reigns for the meetup group.
the organizer got too busy and handed me the power.
ohhhh the power!
Give it a few months and you'll be looking for someone to hand it over to. My meetup tried to rope me in as an organizer. I ran the other way.
I'm perfectly fine running games. If I'm scheduled to play and they need a DM, I'm happy to give up my spot and run something. However, I will not take on any more responsibility. Hell-fucking-NO.
At it's worse organizing can almost become like herding cats.
It's something I might do, but it would have to be something that was my actual normal job and I got paid for it. :1orglaugh Trying to fit it around everything else in your life is when it gets more difficult, especially if there are a lot of unappreciative people you have to deal with. It’s also hard when people are flaky or don’t take it seriously. Few things would get to me more in RPG stuff than organizing and spending a ton of time I volunteered out of my life and maybe even spending a non-insignificant portion of my own money to get something done to have it go to waste because a good portion of the people ended up not giving a damn.
I always was curious for Dungeons and Dragons, in my country in see it in american movies and toons but we dont play it. I dont know how to play but since I saw this post Im checking out

Where are you from?
Chances are, someone has made an unofficial translation of the core book into your language since there are players in almost every single country (you just have to find them).
Also, for role-playing games in general, I can't speak for D&D but other companies sometimes offer a scaled down version of the game for free so you can test it out. I believe Savage Worlds, WitchCraft, and Vampire the Masquerade does.
