Downloading problem

Currently, I'm having a problem where at least half of my downloads won't complete. I do the copy/save and it pops up the download screen for FF, and then it'll pause at some interval and not finish. I use FireFox but I checked it on IE and it did the same thing, so I don't believe it to be the web browser.

I also deleted cookies/cache/passwords/etc but to no avail.

Anyone have a similiar issue before or know of some solution.

Also, FWIW, I know this isn't a computer forum. But I found the problem to be one that could easily be encountered by downloading members of this forum. Needless to say, I'm not using just this forum to solve my query. :hatsoff:

Hello,

You should try to use a download manager. I use Free Download Manager. It is 100% free and no ads at all. It works perfectly and allows you to resume downloads. You can find it here : Premium Link Upgrade

I hope this helps ;)

That would help if I could download without this problem, as I get the same issue trying this download manager. Thanks though.

You asking if I have one? Yes, a main comp and a router that routes to my laptop, which I primarialy use. But this hasn't happened before.

You might try changing the router configuration to not auto seek channels and try that. I've had various problems with file transfers between wireless computers, IM hanging up during calls, an automatic mail checker searchng my ISP's server and downloads stopping just this morning. A faster ftp host got me the download I wanted, but any of the above can hinder a slower than cable transfer. Shutting down all other router access for a big download helps. Also stay off the a wireless phone if on the same frequency as the router.

Alright, I set the auto seek off and put it on one channel. Seems, ok for now. But, I'll guess I'll see later on when I try downloading more stuff.

Thanks, AFA.

I think you're right on the money on this one. A lot of times if you have other equipment near your router (ie microwaves or cordless landline phones) could interfere with your connection and result in a disconnect. Hope that helps some.

Maybe this has been the problem to all my troubles for so long now. In my old place, I had a microwave and a TV and a gaming system within arms reach of my router, and I was constantly losing connection.

When it autoseeks a channel, there usually isn't a problem nor is talking on the phone using the same frequency, 2.4ghz. Normally there is very little transmission to go from one web page to the next, because most of the time you are reading or writing. The same if I am on IM voice and it drops the voice connection, it comes back up a second later but I have to call back, annoying but a quick fix. It's when it's trying to transfer a gig or more of backup data from one PC to another, and of course wireless connect speeds at best are rated only 54mbps or 108mbps, so it takes time. 15 of 20 minutes into the transfer it craps out. That's a big annoyance.

I was on the phone the other day while transfering, and while I could hear the person on the other end crystal clear, they couldn't hear me very well. I switched to a different model handset, (also 2.4ghz), and that cleared it up instantly.

Of course the slower transfer rates are balanced by the convenience of the internet while sitting anywhere within range with a laptop, or moving a PC to another room with no cable to run through the wall.
