"Devout" muslim sues Tesco for making him handle alhocol

There is nothing in the Islamic faith to prevent believers from handling alcohol.I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the only religious alcohol restriction is that muslims should not pray in an intoxicated state.

Let's not forget that for a good period of time in the early 20th C. "the way things [were] done in this country" was, in fact, alcohol prohibition. And I suspect that the Muslim-American minority had little to do with it, as it probably does with the few American counties that insist on some variation of being "dry" - those are mostly places dominated by Christians, with ordinances put in place by zealous Christians. It's all crazy, be it coming from the Muslims or the Christians, in my opinions, but the point is that there are some overlaps in religions viewing alcohol as evil/an evil.

I am in the UK - where this piss taking Muslim is from. You will not believe the trouble UK employers now have to go through to accommodate these people.
I am sick of this country (UK) having to "tip-toe" around the Muslims bending over backwards to accommodate them and their needs.

Exactly. I didn't know exactly what Tesco was, so I looked it up. Umm, it's a grocery store. What grocery store doesn't sell alcohol?

This is ridiculous and anybody who "feels" for this guy needs to wake up. When you accept a position at a company, you accept the responsibility that is involved with that position. You can't tell the company what you're going to do...it's the other way around. The company tells you what you're going to do and if you can't or don't want to do it, then you're not going to work there for very long.

If this guy honestly had such a big problem with handling alcohol, don't you think he would've inquired about it during his job interview? Hmm?

If I was dead-set against animal cruelty, I wouldn't apply a slaughterhouse without asking a few questions first.

No.Not when they are employees of a company and are there to serve the public as they were in this and other cases.

Then the customer can go to the store that sells what they want.
It's not right to force a business to sell what they want.

If it is then I will start doing this.

I mean, at the end of every job interview I've ever had there's been a part at the end where I've been asked if I have any questions. Wouldn't it make sense if Mahmood or Ahmed or whatever the fuck this nutjob's name is asked if he would have to handle alcohol? What did he expect to be handling? Camel food? When he took the job and realized that he would have to handle alcohol he should've either informed his supervisor that he had a problem with his job responsibilities and that he had to change positions, or he should've quit right then, not 8 months after. :ban:

A Muslim who claims he did not know Tesco sold alcohol is suing the store for religious discrimination after having to carry crates of drink as part of his job.
Furthermore forklift truck driver Mohammed Ahmed, 32, worked in a distribution depot for eight months before quitting 'in protest', an employment tribunal heard.

He claims he was forced to leave because handling beer, spirits and wine is against his strict Islamic beliefs and that he was victimised when he asked the company to give him another role.

I find it hard to believe that he didn't know that Tesco sold alcohol and it it was such a problem then why did it take him 8 months to quit and not just leave as soon as he found out.
It's not the companies duty to give him a job he has accepted and done for 8 months when the conditions of the job have not altered since he started working at Tesco.

Are you the slightest bit sympathetic to this guys' cause ?
Mr. Ahmed's orthodoxy is his problem and it should remain that way until he makes other arrangements. It is not the responsibility of society to conform to his extremities.
Furthermore, this guy doesn't "handle alcohol", he merely handles the cartons and containers of which encompass the liquid. :tongue:

IMO, It's up to the people to rally against these encroachments. Your government will only seek the convenient - expedient route . . . . to acquiesce.

If he was unwilling to work with Alcohol then he should have informed Tesco when he took the job.

He will most likely win his case as society is screwed up at the moment and the minority always wins even when in the wrong.

If he worked at a bar that would be one thing, that would be unreasonable. He worked at a place that had many positions including one's that didn't require the handling of alcohol and they could have gave him one of those instead, that isn't unreasonable.

Ummm...yeah, did I mention my religion requires me to take the easiest possible job in the entire place for a good amount of pay. As soon as I don't get it I'm going to sue.

go for it. the real kicker is that you have to prove it. I'm not really sure how you are supposed to go about demonstrating that one belief or text is more true than another, but so it goes. for example you can get a deferment from being drafted and serving in combat if it's for "religious" reasons. In that case you have to usually get some religious figure to testify on your behalf that you go to church every Friday, Saturday or Sunday depending on which one. Yet at the same time because you think that war is immoral for non-religious reasons or because you hate the government or just because you plain old don't feel like getting up off the couch is not considered a valid argument.

And Will E, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza hut are all owned by the same company, so they really do sell everything.

If the bastard was in a muslim country and he was a christian and said he couldn't do something because of his religion they would just kill him.

This Race, Religion, sexual harassment when it's really not justified non sense has got to stop!! When you can just quit. Hell that's how you move up in the business world anyways. Stay at one place for 20 yrs gets you at the most 5 bucks an hour more in salary when you can job skip and do that in a minimum of 2 years.

If you sue for stupid stuff that didn't pertain to health, or an actually loss in finance do to a deliberate scam I say do like the Muslims do just kill the bastard. :fight:
