The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Well, it's not over yet but I think that Obama is crushing McCain so far. McCain seems really nervous and his arguments are kind of elementary and incoherent, IMO. Obama, on the other hand, seems to be shoving every word McCain says right down his throat and making him look stupid.

Verbal fights are cooooool.

I also want to add that McCain's very, very repetitive argument of "I've been to Iraq and Senator Obama has not" is absolutely fucking pointless. Going somewhere doesn't make you an expert on the area and what's going on. Just because you see something with your own eyes doesn't make you understand it.

I went to a Kinko's once, but I still don't know shit about making copies.

Tonight was supposed to be McCain's strong night and this was the subject that he's supposed to have a leg up on Obama on. That being said, I think that Obama actually edged him out. McCain tried to hammer home the message that he is more experienced, and Obama effectively showed how wrong McCain has been on the issues. I was kind of shocked at how rude McCain was by interrupting Obama on several occasions, and then going off on a rant when he was out of turn. The guy seems like he's on the verge of losing control; I've heard he has a short temper and launches into verbal assaults easily, and I really caught a glimpse of that tonight.

While not a fervent supporter of McCain at all, I was slightly impressed with him......he did a lot better than I expected he would. However, Obama is obviously going to "win" the debates as he is the more polished speaker, but I have to say that I was a little underwhelmed with Barack tonight. He did fine, just not spectacular like I was thinking he might.

He didn't have a prepared speech this time around, though. What I can't wait for is to see Palin make a spectacle of herself next week.

Well I think Obama won handily. His skills as an orator help allot. I dont think either candidate really got into the guts of things. But every 1st debate is like a first date, both a little nervous and both thinking how to get to first base with the discussion.

McCain really needed to talk more about the present rather than the past. He has a long history as a politician, but referencing Kissinger 3 times, makes me think 1970's.

I give a solid win for Obama based on who looked and sounded presidential tonight. Obama was respectful and knowledgeable. McCain seemed to meander off into the 70s and 80s too much. McCain didn't do a good job at convincing me he is "relateable" to Contemporary times. It was not a memorable debate in terms of that classic soundbyte like Lloyd Bentson KO'ing Dan Quayle with the "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy" line. Obama didn't get in a big whopper like that and neither did McCain. The closest we got, I thought, was when McCain went into his stump speech and started talking about the bracelet he received from the fallen soldier's mother and Obama immediately countered that with his own bracelet. I didn't know Obama also had that and I thought whatever poignancy McCain was trying to grab, Obama shared in the poignancy.

According to CNN and CBS the early thoughts from debate watchers are giving a scoring this debate as an Obama win across all demographics. Especially the 50+ voter which is shocking to me...because the 50+ voter is saying "it's the economy, not foreign policy" and that voter clearly thinks the economy and the nation are on the wrong path.

The reality and saying this as an Obama voter, is that McCain's campaign has been staggering and on-the-ropes this week and he needed a massive win tonight also due to the shenanigans he tried to pull with calling the debate off. McCain needed a nice, big blunder by Obama and Obama showed complete command of foreign policy issues and facts. For the next debate, McCain is going to have to do something to clearly win and not hope that Obama will serve up a blunder. It looks like Obama is very much in control.

My final point is what does it say about a campaign when that campaign refuses to send out the VP nomination to media outlets to discuss the top of the ticket's performance? Where was Sarah Palin tonight? I didn't see her on CNN, NBC or ABC. Did she go out to the press like Joe Biden did? Joe Biden was everywhere tonight. I really think Sarah Palin is in deep shit. She looked very clueless and in over her head with Katie Couric. She is political deadweight for McCain at the moment and that's bad....

From what I heard Sarah Palin declined to do any interviews. An aftermath of the Katie Couric incident perhaps.:dunno: In my opinion that is an absolute mistake and I can't wait until her debate with Joe Biden.

^^
But what message does that send? When the going gets tough..it's time to go in hiding? The McCain camp have botched the VP pick. Everyone knew it. McCain caved AGAIN to Bush when he let Karl Rove talk him out of selecting Joe Lieberman.

It looks bad tonight that there's not a complete Republican ticket. Rudy Guiliani looked more Vice Presidential tonight on NBC when he spoke on behalf of McCain after the debate as the McCain campaigns "spokesperson"....ouch, Governor Palin....ouch.

I saw that Giuliani spoke on NBC but I was mostly watching CNN and they had one of McCain's advisers (forgot her name) speak for him and then Joe Biden came on for Obama. I kept thinking where the hell is Palin? She should be the one doing these interviews and like I said I can't wait until her debate because I'm sure Biden might just rip her to shreds. She's going to have to really surprise me.

I liked how McCain opened the debate tonight with the story about Dwight Eisenhower writing the two letters on the eve of the DDAY invasion. I must confess that it is PATENTLY ABSURD TO LIE about those letters...one of those letters was not a resignation letter! It completely annoyed me and saddened me when NBC "corrected" that point after the debate.

Shame on you McCain for distorting a fellow serviceperson and PRESIDENT's record so shamelessly....shame on you.

In the beginning I wasn't really impressed with either one of them because I didn't feel they were really answering questions about the current state of the economy or the bail out but that could also be that they were caught off guard because tonight was really about foreign policy. Once it got to foreign policy I thought that McCain would have it because that is supposed to be his arena but Obama more than held his own and in my opinion really took it to McCain. I also felt that McCain was too stuck on his past and not on what he'll do for the future. I felt that Obama did a decent job on linking McCain to the current administration and I'm looking forward to their next debate.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
IMO McCain looked very dumbfounded, confused, he looked and acted VERY shook! meaning he was looking very timid and defeated, THE ELEPHANTS are really looking fucked and defeated right now! they are in serious trouble with the economy issue, and their 700 billion dollar rescue plan!

I think its gonna get even worse when Biden RIPS that fucktard palin a new asshole!! she's so narrow minded and ripe for a massacre its gonna be HUMILIATING TO THE ELEPHANT REGIME @ the VP debates!

after that, its gonna take no less than a miracle for the ELEPHANTS to remain in control of the white house! they absolutely stink of the shit they are in!! all the :bs: they've been piling on Americans / Democrats for the last 7 3/4 yrs is finally coming back to HAUNT THEM and literally biting them in the ass all over the board, foreign relations / policies are a joke, MILITARY SPENDING TO PAY FOR AN ILLEGAL, UNJUSTIFIED WAR THAT HAS COST US BILLIONS!! not too mention the oil and energy issues, a major fuck up by the elephants, domestic issues / relations are non existent!! except the GREAT ECONOMY WE ARE ALL CURRENTLY BLESSED WITH  health care, the budget / deficit, the ELEPHANTS are pathetic / ridiculous / and extremely hideous trying too save face by spewing all kinds of STALE, repeated :bs: that AMERICANS have nothing to worry about, and to trust (them) and vote for (us) again so we can further fuck this great country of ours into a pandemic plague that swallows everybody!!

THE ELEPHANTS ARE AN EPIC FAILURE!! I don't see how anybody can defend them? even pure blooded republicans how can you condone the CONDITION of our country and everything the ELEPHANTS HAVE FUCKED UP??

No major gaffs by eithier, slight advantage to Obama overall. But that is bad news for McCain as this debate and subject should have been his strongest. And especially given the awfull week McCain had with the silly things he did with wanting to postpone the debate and all that he needed a clear victory here. Now next is Palin in a debate, that one will really be fun to watch.

I didn't think either really pushed foward anything new, but found McCain handled himself a bit better than I expected.

However almost all of McCain's positions are new and turn arounds as of a few weeks ago. Such as his position about about alternate energy, and the economy, McCain like Bush felt the economy was fine back even recently and around the time of the "how many houses do you own question", and alternate energy wasn't mentioned at all until a short time ago. Changing position or talking about the need for change is just adjusting to public opinion.

What percentage of would be voters are undecided at this point ?

McCain debated with much greater conviction and detail than did Obama, IMO.
I was expecting McCain to be somewhat of an embarrassment out there . . not so, not last night. Obama wasn't bad, it's just that McCain was surprisingly sharp.

The baggy eyed bolshevik (Lehrer) could have queried these two politicians about wtf this nation is going to do about Illegal Immigration and the negative effect it has on our economy, putting millions of Americans, not only in a position to have to work for lower wages than what is deserved, but in a position to not be able to afford to work at the depressed rates caused by the influx of illegal labor.
Add insult to injury - Nobody is talking about the billions of dollars that are earned in North America are being dispersed back into Mexico's economy.

Why in the hell do we even have a military ?
A compliment to our swiss cheese borders ?

disgusting

I think most illegals are being scapegoated by this admin. Most of what is paid to illegal immigrants is sub minimum wage, doing jobs that most people are unwilling to do. Someone asked once if you want to pay $10 a pound for tomatoes without illegals crossing the border?

On another subject I already mentioned in another thread. CBS Sunday Morning a few weeks ago, when McCain was joking about Obama's statement to keep your tires inflated and still pushing the offshore rigs that clearly would take years to bring online. CBS found that with the 1.6B gallons of oil McCain felt he could get from the rigs, Obama was actually talking an immediate 7B gallon savings immediately keeping tires inflated, extra weight out of the trunk. In any case those are real quantities of oil that experts always said could be saved by those measures, but McCain thought it made a better joke than it did.
