CPR works.......here's proof

Take a Hit, Spunker!
I just got home a little while ago from being at the hospital after saving my neighbor's life. I was ready to go to bed when I heard a commotion outside. Her boyfriend overdosed on fentanyl, which is more potent than heroin. She rolled him over just to see if he was awake, but he was turning blue.

She called 911 and I made sure he didn't swallow his tongue, had a heartbeat and was breathing. His breathing stopped a couple times and I had to do CPR. My neighbor was freaking out and I told her calm down and help. I made sure he was breathing and when the EMT's came they took over. She kept on saying if I wasn't home she wouldn't know what to do. I'm the only person that knows CPR and I thought I'd never have to use it, but tonight I did.

Believe me when I say, go take CPR classes. It works and it's worth it. Her boyfriend's home here now and I told them don't call me a hero. I just did what I was taught and what any decent human being would do.

They taught us that back when I was a kid at summer camp. I forgot it all. :dunno:

Awesome. Self-accomplishment is always a good thing, especially when it involves saving someone else. Sure you may feel like no hero now, but deep down I'm sure you know you are. Good job, and congratulations.

My Hero :lovecoupl Way to go :hatsoff:

At my old workplace we were taught CPR, but I have forgotten it :shy:

So if your around me and you decide to choke or go into cardiac arrest etc, dont be looking at me to help you. :D

I know CPR changed from 15-2 to 30-2 back a few years ago, but any new changes to the CPR protocol you know of...

Dam, nice job. Here in California, its actually a requirement that you have to take CPR in order to graduate high school.

What is fentanyl?

What is fentanyl?

Our good friend Wikipedia knows all the answers:

Fentanyl is an odorless, rapid-acting opioid (or synthetic opiate), which depresses central nervous system and respiratory function. It is one of the most powerful opioid analgesics, with a potency approximately 80 times that of morphine.

Fentanyl is extensively used for anesthesia and analgesia, most often in the operating room and intensive care unit.

80 times that of morphine!!!

That's the one in all the tv ads about the pain patch they're telling people not to use, even the patches can give you an overdose. Makes you wonder how it ever hits the market, then again, if it were a cure for cancer how long would you want them to spend testing it...oops, big can of worms there.

Nice work Violator!

The biggest change to CPR is no more mouth to mouth. My dad told me that they passes a law saying no more of that. Now it's open an airway, check for pulse and breathing. I don't know if that's just here in Pennsylvania or not.

From what my neighbor told me, her bf took the patches and cooked the drug into a powder and snorted it. Now I don't know that much about drugs, nor do I want to know.

Not to rain on your parade.. but you just saved a druggie. (Temporarily)

He'll be at it again, one of these days. Best of luck the second and third times. :sigh:

Yeah tell me about it. But if I'm here and he OD's again, I'll save his dumb ass again, not that I really have to, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't.
