Confessions of a Tea Party Casualty

GOP Rep. Bob Inglis slams Republican demagoguery, bemoans anti-Semitic tea party conspiracy nonsense, decries Sarah Palin’s ignorance, and looks for a job.

It was the middle of a tough primary contest, and Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) had convened a small meeting with donors who had contributed thousands of dollars to his previous campaigns. But this year, as Inglis faced a challenge from tea party-backed Republican candidates claiming Inglis wasn't sufficiently conservative, these donors hadn't ponied up. Inglis' task: Get them back on the team. "They were upset with me," Inglis recalls. "They are all Glenn Beck watchers." About 90 minutes into the meeting, as he remembers it, "They say, 'Bob, what don't you get? Barack Obama is a socialist, communist Marxist who wants to destroy the American economy so he can take over as dictator. Health care is part of that. And he wants to open up the Mexican border and turn [the US] into a Muslim nation.'" Inglis didn't know how to respond.

Holy shit on a stick.

Just brilliant. This really shows the intelligence level in the Tea Party.

And then there are the people who are to ignorant/biased/bigoted/whatever etc. to even question the veracity of this obviously made up quote. Here is to you sir, for proving your own point... sort of.

I read this in another forum that I belong to. Show's the thinking of the tea party. They claim that they are for independents and moderates...untill their view confilct with the teabaggers...then they cast them out like a $2.00 whore.

No...the Tea Party is not a nutjob group.

Uh ohhhh...there's a derivation of that word again A/R....:eek::eek:

Living in SC, I voted for Inglis in the primary. The person who beat him (Trey Gowdy) is utterly worthless. At least he's not Alvin Green!!

 There will be no more demagoguery around here. I'll have to smash some heads. Check in, brah!

I can agree with some of the Tea Party ideals: simplified tax system and lower taxes, balanced federal budget, reduced earmarks, repealing universal health care plan, and demonstrating Constitutionality of new laws.

What I don't get is this obsession with Socialism and Marxism, a Muslim NWO, and the birther movement. The Tea Party is quickly becoming/is already a giant  for the GOP. They make reasonable Conservatives look like zealots and bigots. The fact that they've become so mainstream is very disconcerting.

Sounds like a rational problem solving conservative. Can't say I'm surprised he lost a GOP primary. It's a weird crazy eyed path they've chosen to go down these last couple of years.

They started out as anti-mainstream and thus became mainstream...they became the thing they were aganist.

That is how power dynamics work. The first step of assimilation is isolation.

When I read about the Bell, CA situation of local municipal gov't running amok with salary/benefits inflation it makes me  and want a much stronger Federal Gov't....

I'm thinking the same thing. This poor guy wants to get real work done, past all the shit-slinging, and this is how they treat him. And the scary part, I mean the really scary part is, these people actually think that their perverted way of thinking is going to get enough votes to win anything. I mean, the American public is stoopid, but we're not that stoopid.

the tea party is going to end up doing what the green party does to the democrats, taking votes away from the other majority party (republicans) but winning next to nothing but still it'd be nice to have some other real parties besides the major two i suppose
