"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game against Green Bay. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Well within his rights if he chooses, but if he really wants to take a stand, turn down the paycheck that comes from a league/team in this terrible country or donate it to black people.

His intentions are grossly misguided by his interpretation that the anthem is representative of the US government. It clearly is not....rather, it is representative of the nation itself....its people. For what he perceives as the oppressive actions of the authorities and government, he condemns and disrespects all of the people who live in our great nation, including himself and those whom he claims are being oppressed. Ironically, his weak attempt to bring attention to bigotry is incredibly bigoted by its very nature.

Is it wriiten in the NFL rules that players have to stand-up the the National Anthem ? If it ain't nothing forces him to do so. If it is, then yes he should be suspended (but not 'til the end of the season) and fined
You may be pissed at him (And you'd have good reasons too). He surely did not choose the appropriate way to make his voice heard, to protest against what he considers an injustice. But wether he had the right to do so or not is yet to be determined.

But more important, he needs to learn what that anthem and that flag do stand for and what they do not stand for.

This is Salah Abdeslam, one of the terrorist who participated in the Paris Attacks last year. Kapernick does not look like him... You cannot judge wether or not a muslim is radicalized or not just by looking at his face or his clothes. You have to look at his actions, at how he treats women (especially his girlfriend).

I say it's an act of ignorance and stupidity because the anthem and the reason he gave for not sytanding up are in fact not connected in any way. He just choosed the wrong way to protest against what he considers to be an injustice. Others have protested for the same reasons, would you call hem radicalised muslim as well ?
