Doesn't the Gospel of John state that (and I'm paraphrasing): if and when the Lords chosen people finally lift the cup of gold over the rest of the world and press it to their blessed lips it will signify that the second coming of Christ is on its way.

Of course it is possible for the team of the Unites States to win the tournament.

In their group, England stands out, of course, so if the USA makes a solid second place in the group phase, against Algeria and Slovenia, they can go on then and then it is KO each game.

Who would have thought that, as an example, Greece would be European Champions way back in 2004?

That is the beauty of the game.

But as it seems, so many US-Americans can't see the fascination in Soccer.

Those two million live in Chicago, when your hometown is in the finals of anything people get excited. It was the same around here a few years ago when the Hurricanes were in the Stanley Cup Finals.

See how many millions show up for the NBA Finals Champion next week or the week after. It will dwarf 2 million.

You know what a small percentage of Americans care about hockey and soccer compared to baseball, football and basketball?

NFL Champions are world champions cause no other football team in "the world" outside America is going to beat them for obvious reasons.

Many other teams outside America can beat the MLS champions.

I cant wait until we start playing aliens in sports for a Solar System Champion.

The U.S. has 1% chance to win the World Cup this time. I think we could win it in 8 years though, IF the U.S. does well this World Cup.

The economic world is getting Global and the World of Sport is becoming a bigger and bigger part of everyone's lives. If the U.S. goes on a deep run this WOrld Cup the seeds will be planted for some 8-10 yr olds right now to drop their basketballs and footballs and pick up soccer balls :yesyes:

The U.S. has the athletes and the money to be consistently among the World's Best in World Football. We just have a Sports world dominated by the NFL and MLB. They squash everything else.

I think if the fat-bellied, greasy-chinned, fast food eating American could sit down with someone knowledgeable about Soccer to explain what's going on, the lazy American football fan could easily be converted to Soccer. :yesyes:
