California Gubernatorial Recall

Who remembers Heidi Fleiss? It seems Elder was engaged to one of her employees (or would she have been an independent contractor?).

Allegedly, Elder met his fiancé at the Playboy mansion and eventually waved a gun at her while high.

No idea. Newsom needed to dig up the dirt earlier. After Cuomo, the Dems can’t be too pushy on these matters.

Even if the broad is telling the truth by politically weaponizing her complaint her integrity will be taken into question. How long was she sat on and by who? At least women have found their place in politics. Turning Tricks is Turning Tricks.

Elder on Friday night told Fox News' Sean Hannity that Democrats "are scared to death. They know that if California can elect a conservative governor like myself — and they can and they will on September the 14th — that any state can."

It seems some Republicans are scared too. Jerry Faulconer (former Republican mayor of San Diego):
"Elder's backwards positions harm women's rights and the livelihoods of California families. Elder’s lack of judgement and character flaws threaten the success and credibility of this historic recall movement — Californians will not vote to recall one dysfunctional Governor if it means replacing him with another."

I'd vote yes on Katherine!

Gotta add this for shits 'n' giggles too. Poor Bill Maher used to be on a show called Politically Incorrect until ABC fired him for being politically incorrect. The PC Demon took flight and possessed his zombie audience on the HBO show. Deep down he has disdain for that overly obedient ship of fools.

Wasted time and drama. I think think is pure politics.

Harris campaigned yesterday in support of Newsom. Dems outnumber Republicans 2 to 1 in the state and a recent poll by the Public Policy Institute of california showed that 58% of likely voters opposed recalling Newsom, who is a first time governor.

The left opposes the recall effort. California's improving economy and recently enacted family -friendly legislation are positives. They aint doing bad.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/02/opinion/newsom-elder-california-recall.html

The right supports the recall effort. They think California's high rates of unemployment and homelessness are justification. I guess recalls are kind of elections and that is how the public decides on these things, but the split of the electorate is not even close.

Just seems it is all drama and a waste of time. Perhaps it is another hole the right falls into and the left get a distraction on other issues for what seems an easy win.

Tax dollars at work.

So, it continues The votes will head to the polls today, casting ballots to determine whether Gov. Gavin Newsom will be recalled. The vote is just the fourth recall election of a governor in US history; only two incumbents went on to be recalled—one being California's Gray Davis in 2003.

While the recall petition included a number of issues, the effort is widely viewed as being fueled by opposition to Newsom's handling of the pandemic. The movement gained steam after photos emerged of Newsom of breaking protocol at a November dinner with lobbyists and officials at the luxury restaurant French Laundry.

Seems like a typical tone deaf, entitled politician. Us New Yorkers roll our eyes at this. I think he has a long way to go before hitting the depths of Cuomo the lesser.

The ballot has two questions - the first asks whether Newsom should be recalled, while the second asks who his replacement should be. A majority of voters must vote yes on the first question; if it passes, whoever has the most votes on question two will succeed Newsom (a majority is not needed).

https://ballotpedia.org/Gavin_Newsom_recall,_Governor_of_California_(2019-2021)

Here is the fun part - Newsom enters the day with polls showing a 16-point lead n the first question of whether he should be recalled—though analysts note the size and demographics of voter turnout are difficult to predict for such a referendum. Should question one pass, conservative radio host Larry Elder leads a pack of 46 possible replacement candidates.

Waste of time, money, and energy.

How odd the party of fiscal responsibility started this boondoggle. Sorry @Dino Velvet, but it looks like Gavin will still be hosting the game show for a bit longer.

Yes, it was a waste of time, money and energy. How about implementing something like the English rule concerning legal fees? The loser pays the other party's fees.

The new normal: When you know you're going to lose, claim fraud before losing.

Agreed.

I don't think this would pass since both sides 'doggle a bit.

Gavin Newsom survived the recall. I was hoping it would be closer but am still hoping this process did enough damage to Gavin Newsom to keep him from moving up any higher on the political ladder.

Larry Elder is a good critic but doing the job is different. I wonder if secretly he's relieved. His radio show will gain a lot of popularity and he could get other offers. Good for Larry. I'm still happy I voted for him.

Good post.

This comment ^^ -- I suspect there are a good number of politicians that are relieved when they lose and feel trapped when they win.

The trajectory of the recall was interesting. It started out as a long-shot, got close, and ended up where it started.

What happens with Newsom in the future is anyone's guess, but I have a read a few pundits who think it may have helped him. He seemed to have consolidated and motivated his base.

As for Elder - I'd give you TR's Man in the Arena quote, but that may come off as a bit pompous (I need to mind where I am). :)

Assari would call me a liberal. I don't care.

This was all a big political scam by Donald Trump, all the Trumpistas, his Republican Party friends and Fox News to get rid of the best governor EVER Gavin Newsom. (Haha. Alright, Dino maybe not?) -- Lee Elder, the big Black conservative that he is, would never win in such a liberal state as California. I'm glad he lost. And lost big. And what groups voted to keep him a loser? The Asian, Latino and Black voting blocks.

With this loss, is Donald Trump's political power, slipping away? ....

When the Republicans went with Elder it was pretty much over for them at that point. How many mostly apathetic people made an effort to vote when they might not have just so he would lose? He was perhaps the worst choice they could have went with, but because he's also very Trumpian the Republicans just couldn't help themselves.
