Bush lied about WMD's

Should have proof read my post... But should be also & I mentioned that because I believe that as soon as the U.S. army is gone a civil war will break out & the surrounding countries, except for Iran, will probably support the Sunni population.

That is exactly what is going to happen. I feel that Iran will pounce on the opportunity to invade and strength their position in the middle east.

FYI

There's already civil wars taking place in Afghanistan and Iraq while our troops are stationed there so the fear of pulling out of because of the possible outbreak of civil wars is dumbfounded

Yes there is, but now it's still 'local', since none of the surrounding countries wants to risk the U.S.' wrath.

& BTW, I am in favor of foreign troops leaving Iraq. The longer the troops stay, the longer the hate and anger towards the other groups living there will grow & the harder they'll strike when the troops finally leave and the more they'll hate the west for either leaving or going to Iraq in the first place (depending on who you ask).

Afghanistan is a different matter. The Taliban hid a wanted criminal that openly attacked the U.S. & refused to cooperate in any way when the U.S. asked them to hand over Bin Laden.

The U.S. should quit trying to convince the people (both within the U.S. and outside of the U.S.) that they're there to rebuild the country and focus on erradicating the Taliban (Bin Laden is probably long gone & could be hiding in Beijing as far as we know...), since they're not really progressing on that front right now. As long as the Taliban isn't erradicated, rebuilding will just be a waste of money and time.

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
The difference between Bush and Clinton in this situation is that Bush has left politics and spends his time writing memoirs and giving self-help speeches, while Clinton goes on a diplomatic mission to North Korea. If he's going to insert himself as an agent of the State Department, then his presidential record on foreign affairs is still very relevant.

By who's rules....yours? That's a partisan load of shit.

Actually, these are 100% true ...

Bush: Iraq Possesses and Produces Chemical Weapons
Oct. 7, 2002
George W. Bush
"The Iraqi regime . . . possesses and produces chemical and biological weapons. It is seeking nuclear weapons. We know that the regime has produced thousands of tons of chemical agents, including mustard gas, sarin nerve gas, VX nerve gas." (more)

Bush: 500 Tons of Sarin, 30,000 Munitions
Jan. 28, 2003
George W. Bush
"Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent" and "upwards of 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents... " (more)

"The Iraqi regime . . . possesses and produces chemical and biological weapons. It is seeking nuclear weapons. We know that the regime has produced thousands of tons of chemical agents, including mustard gas, sarin nerve gas, VX nerve gas."
George W. Bush, Cincinnati, Ohio Speech 10/7/2002

"We've also discovered through intelligence that Iraq has a growing fleet of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to disperse chemical or biological weapons across broad areas."
George W. Bush, Cincinnati, Ohio Speech 10/7/2002

"Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent."
George W. Bush, State of the Union Address 1/28/2003

Sep. 18, 2002
Donald Rumsfeld
His regime has amassed large, clandestine stockpiles of biological weapons—including anthrax and botulism toxin, and possibly smallpox.

His regime has amassed large, clandestine stockpiles of chemical weapons—including VX, sarin, cyclosarin and mustard gas.

His regime has an active program to acquire and develop nuclear weapons.
Actually, these statements are 100% true. And similar statements were made by the Clinton administration in 1993-1995, again in 1996 as well as after 1998. It just wasn't true any more as of 2002-2003. Iraq did have a serious VX gas production effort, one of the few active and leading in the world in the '80s and even post cease-fire '90s.

People forget that Iraq fooled the world not only in 1991, but again in 1995. Iraq did produce tons upon tons of chemical agents and had one of the largest stockpiles of biological agents. Saddam even had the all-important delivery systems as well, and used them even after the 1991 cease-fire, much to the naivity of the American commanders who allowed them to fly helicopters (assumingly for aid, until the error was realized and it was too late).

And the most scary was how little the US and UN was prepared for how far Iraq had gotten with their nuclear program. That was a huge eye opener, and it took years of people investigating after the war to realize how far it was. Even as late as 1993-1994, Iraq was still denying and moving pieces of its nuclear program around, until they were caught "red handed" enough times that others started to care.

Until economic bribes in 1995 caused France, Russia and Germany to block efforts. This was confirmed by documents seized in 2003. Unfortunately that's about the only "smoking gun" found in Iraq since the invasion, other than one-off, former stockpiles since dumped or otherwise destroyed many years earlier (and virtually, totally inert -- other than possible, future environmental issues to the limited water table).

As much as people like to claim the US is wrong, had every nation not allowed Saddam to fracture actions with selfish, economic bribes, we would have never been in this situation. Instead, Saddam was able to fracture the message, nations are selfish, and the US let it go on for 12 years before making its fatal error.

As most theories have put forth, including Oliver Stone in W., Saddam kept up the ruse because A) he wanted to keep his own people in fear that they'd be gassed again and B) he didn't believe the US would invade without a new UN resolution authorizing action.

"A" worked because there was little reason to believe that Saddam wasn't hiding, just like in the 7 years of 1991-1998 prior when there were inspectors were getting no where except when someone fouled up and Saddam was caught "red handed." I wish people would read Hans Blix from years before 2003, and how this inspections never work without full disclosure. Iraq never did.

Let's get one thing clear: Throughout the '90s, Iraq was trying to "hold out" what it had until the inspections were blocked ... which did happen in 1995. And the Clinton administration looked like fools in 1996, when it was shown that Iraq was taking advantage of the blocked inspections. In a post-9/11 world, the W. administration was determined not to be fooled again when those materials could be used by non-state entities. Like it or not, that's the truth and the resulting logic.

Saddam was kinda like Andy Kaufman. You can only lie and play games so many times until your word is jack -- so when you really do disarm, like Kaufman really had cancer, no one believes you. In fact, like Andy, Saddam thrived on that and used it to his advantage -- such as Saddam's thread to use WMDs against his own people, ones that no longer existed.

So many Democrats believed it as well, and saw the same intelligence as W. and came to the same conclusions.

Yeah? No shit, thanks for the update. :dunno:
