Buffy Slayer of the Vampyres

Okay I know that the show has been off the air for about 6 years (Season 8 is still going in comic book form and it's damn good by the way) But most of my friends turn their nose up at it so I haven't had a lot of discussions with people who are also fans. I am hoping with this thread I could change that.

I first started watching the show on FX about a year after the show ended. Up until that time I had turned my nose up at it mostly because I couldn't get past the title and I hated the movie. My first taste of the Buffyverse was an episode fof Angel where Faith first came to L.A and Wolfram & Hart hired her to kill Angel. What moved me was the ending where she was sobbing and begging Angel to kill her. After that I needed to know more. 5 years later I am obsessed with both shows and anything else Joss Whedon does.

I enjoyed Buffy from the season where they graduated High School and a couple more seasons after that, until Dawn came in and Buffy and Spike started this whole little romance sub-plot. I then realized Buffy was nothing more than a teen soap opera with vampires.

Angel I enjoyed up until he had his son, I fell out of it really quick after that because I couldn't stand that damn brat. I lasted a few seasons. Once it came into syndication on TNT at 6 and 7 in the morning, I watched the whole series. I really enjoy that show over Buffy. Especially when Spike came into the series.

Buffy and Angel were two of the greatest TV shows, ever. personal favs of mine. I am huge fan, and miss both shows.

Monsters, action, humor, horror, HOT babes, lots of heart, smart writing, etc. What more did you need?

I've been a fan of Buffy since the first commercial advertising that it was coming on. I love that show and Angel, Firefly, and now Dollhouse. Hated the movie though. I have all of the WhedonVerse shows on DVD and I've been collecting the Buffy Season 8 graphic novels. Sorry Twilight, Buffy did it first.

It's one of those shows I hope some day to get around to watching. I actually liked the movie - a lot of tongue-in-cheek fun.

Yes, I love both shows. My friend watched one episode of Buffy and said he thought it was cheesy. He's also a huge Star Trek fan. I'm sorry, but I think Star Trek is about as cheesy as it gets imo.

Cheesy then was historic. Cheesy with Buffy was contemporary.

I watched Buffy but didn't watch Angel.

The character of "Spike" was one of the most interesting and hilarious TV characters in recent memory. He was a great villain and then transformed into an interesting ally of Buffy near the end.

I enjoyed the show for its great sense of humor, and the TV series is funnier than the movie. You can watch the first season it on HULU.COM. They also had season 2 and 3 but they are gone now.

Hulu also has Angel. I think if you skip the first few episodes it get better when Cordialia(sic) joins the show. Almost as good as Buffy.

Your friend just doesn't get it. Even the show at it's core is a drama it has never ever taken itself that seriously. It pokes fun at the horror, melodrama, and superhero genres at the same time paying respect to them. It has a large dose of cheese to it but it's done so deliberately. :D

I remember the first episode of Angle; he moves to New York after having his fall out with Buffy. At the end of the episode he is in his room alone at night and decides to call Buffy. You hear Buffy pick up the other end and say, “Hello, who is this” a few times before Angle hangs up and the camera slowly pans away to end the episode.

On the same weeks Buffy Episode she is going through some depression or something. In the middle of the episode wile she is walking through her house you here the phone ring, she picks it up says the “Hello who is this” before the phone is hung up on the other end, she looks at the phone a little weird hangs up slowly, cut to the next scene of that Buffy episode.

Even though it is insignificant I remember that. It was like a way to link the to shows together where only a fan would notice. Those kind of things is what made the shows so good.

Over the years I have grown to appreciate the movie a little bit more but the TV show is where it's at. If you liked the movie you'll love the show and if youget a chance to watch it you won't be disappointed.

I liked the video game - the first one. I still have it! lol
SMG is hot!
I liked the show but did not get to see it much so I never got into the whole storyline.
Seems I'm missing out.

I too own both shows on DVD and I am also collecting Season 8 and I think it's fantastic. The writers can do so much more in the comic book medium then they could with the show.
Have you read the Fray mini-series? It's a very cool continuation of the Slayer mythology.
In regards to Twillight, I started reading the first book I am actually enjoying it. I saw the movie about a month ago. Edward Cullen is modeled very closely after Angel that it's not even funny right down to the wardrobe.

When Dawn first appeared I spent the next few days scratching my head going: "What the Fuck?!" At first I thought she wasn't much more then a little bit of a whiney brat. But that changed for me when I saw "The Body" which is one of the best if not the best episode of the entire series. Anyway I identified with her and how she was feeling because my Mom died of cancer and I was the younger sibling that had such hard time dealing with it. :(

Teenage Conner came out of left field and it took me a long time to warm up to him. That poor kid never stood a chance. Fucked over almost since the day he was "born". The thing that pissed me off the most about that show was how Cordelia was totally fucked over, though I must say that Charisma Carpenter does evil and manipulative very well.

I always found the college and government student/soldiers thing really fun, but at the same time odd.

And why has she never ran into them while on patrols in high school?

It was still fun, but once you think on a realistic level, it kind of strips away layer by layer.

I have a love/hate feeling about season 4. I just couldn't warm up to the "Commandos". I always felt they were out of their league and they were messing with Buffy's turf (which they actually were). My favorite episode from that season was "Hush" but I think the worst episode of the entire series was also from that season "Beer Bad".
