They do exist but they are rare. That one doesn't look like your typical albino black person. I've also seen Asian albinos before in my city. Can be surreal I think they are viewed as "evil" in some parts of Africa. They are used for rituals and shit I am pretty sure:

It's probably some sort of genetic mutation never seen before, especially as little race mixing has ever gone on in Nigeria

Professor Bryan Sykes, head of Human Genetics at Oxford University and Britain's leading expert, yesterday called the birth "extraordinary".

He said: "In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child - and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents.

"This might be the case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations. But in Nigeria there is little mixing."

Prof Sykes said BOTH parents would have needed "some form of white ancestry" for a pale version of their genes to be passed on.

But he added: "The hair is extremely unusual. Even many blonde children don't have blonde hair like this at birth."

The expert said some unknown mutation was the most likely explanation.

He admitted: "The rules of genetics are complex and we still don't understand what happens in many cases."

Such a phenomenon would have to exist in order explain the staggering diversity of genetic traits human beings have developed since the beginning.

I know, I don't like the sound of "spontaneous trait emergence" either . . . but if the current theories of evolution are to be believed, just such phenomena would have to be taking place, at small, barely noticeable levels every day.

Maybe this is just the popping up of trait that is new to the child's ancestral gene pool.

It could just be pigmentation from birth instead of later on in life or in little patches of white skin. I knew some black people who had white skin in patches on their body. Perhaps this is just a bigger form of that.

The environmental changes in climatology likely required less and less melanin...an viola...a new race, tribe, breed or whatever you want to call it is spawned.

This is definitely a strange occurrence. The easiest explanations would point to white ancestry or albino-ism. Since she was already ruled out to be albino(which is pretty easy to spot the moment a person comes out of the womb) the only other explanation would be white ancestry. But even that doesn't seem to satisfy given the fact that race mixing is nearly non-existent in Nigeria. Also if the woman had cheated on her spouse, how often do mixed race kids come out looking like that? The other thing I noticed that the article touched on was the hair of the child. Even in babies with two white parents, it is very uncommon to see hair like that. Even with my wealth of genetic knowledge I just gotta throw my hands up in the air with this one.

There are lots of theories that attempt to explain how we get the different "races"(i use the term loosely). It seems the only thing that people can agree on is what The Bible has already touched on millenniums ago: We all come descendant from a single man.

Yeah albinoism is pretty darn common in certain parts of Africa, especially in certain tribes. The Albinos are being hunted and butchered for their body parts to use in rituals of luck, combat prowess, money, power and to grow the penis.

Sometimes their body parts are eaten or their blood is used in rituals to "extract the magic" and cast it at an enemy.

Even in Ghana (relatively stable and prosperous) British soldiers had to rescue "white" and albino babies and send them to Britain for adoption to protect them from being slaughtered in public. Sucks to be an albino

The gene mutation that causes alibinism is not the same series that causes white skin. Also, the series of traits common to Caucasians comes as a sort of "package deal."

I wouldn't be surprised if the Igbo are a descendant of the people who would head north and eventually become elongated east africans (Somalis, Ethiopians) who are the direct ancestors of non-Negroid peoples.

Albinism is just near or complete absence of pigmentation if I'm not mistaken. White as in Caucasian skin isn't void of pigmentation it has just more colorless melanin than brown melanin. Black skin is simply the reverse, more dark brown melanin than colorless... as all skin possess various colors of melanin. Hence the actual skin tone is determined by a ratio of colors of melanin.

Further elements of genetic differences are not much different. Most races have more traits for a specific eye shape (for example) than other races but all races possess the same traits just in varying ratios.

There are pure whites with naturally broad noses for example and some blacks with keener noses just as a consequence of the human gene for that trait...

All humans share the same genes for different traits...

Actually the kid has a better chance now than when humans were more primal with no understanding of how this occurs. There was a time when this would probably be on par with pointing a remote control at some electrical device and making it change without touching it.
