Black History classes now banned in Arizona

I don't disagree with having our teachers be as proficient as possible in the English language when teaching our children either, Philbert.

However, you didn't include my complete statement. For the record, here's what I said:

If you're willing to allow some unknown "authority" make arbitrary determinations about what constitutes a "heavy" accent without oversight....well, I guess that's your prerogative. I strongly disagree.

That's because you added that after I responded...I quoted what was there at the time. A bit unfair, huh?
It says "heavy"...there are arbitration panels and such for teachers...if an accent is un-understandable it isn't allowed...Nigerian, Mexican, or Kentuckian. Disagree and arbitration ensues.
Judgment is a factor in most things, so that's a moot point.
Once again, the problem is simple...10,000 un-understandable Latinos are teaching English due to an entryway of previous Bi-Lingual classes, now discontinued. Those who haven't improved their English pronunciation in 10 years or so now have to cut bait or fish...simple. If a Gringo has the problem, it's covered by the general ruling. Just cause there isn't a Gringo with the problem isn't a factor...when there is one they will have to step up or go.
Only when there is an identifiable case of favoritism can the problem be addressed...not by using an imaginary Southerner but by dealing with the real problem in front of the schools.
I had to re-learn English pronunciation when I began traveling to other places other than Texas...where "hunnert" received blank stares and "hundred" got me the desired communication.
Not unreasonable, I did it quite easily.

:cool:Who among us native English speakers ever learned how to enunciate the English language from a teacher in a school? Not a fucking one. You learn how to articulate the language from the people you are around most of your life. You only learn (or should learn) how to be grammatically correct in a school.

Technically a teacher needn't say one word to be able to teach English Most kids have the phonics down before they even get to the more technical aspects of the language from indirect home training.

Bla Bla Bla...how about reading the article before blathering on and on about nothing in the article...?
It clearly states the students effected are NOT native English speakers and have NO home environment of English or any useful background in English.
Hence the problem...

Canadians are next on Arizona's hitlist.
They won't allowed to watch hockey and they will be forced to use the letter u.

If so you must be the quickest typist in the world since I edited my post immediately after if was posted. Unfair? If you say so. You still take issue with it so what's the difference?

"Arbitration panels"? Are those like the dreaded Obama "death panels" that everyone on your side of the aisle is so worried about?

I guess it depends whose ox is being gored, huh? :dunno:

I wasn't blather "about nothing in the article". I read the article in the OP and it says no such thing. But even in the WSJ article for which you are referring to....My statement still holds true. Whomever you are...you don't learn how to enunciate in a school. You learn how to enunciate whatever language from the people you are around ...not a classroom.

Point is...it's a useless stipulation that has no bearing on a person's ability to grammatically and academically learn a language.

Speaking of blathering "about nothing in the article", the word "environment" appears once in the WSJ article and it's not next to the word "home".

so they are getting rid of European History classes as well I hope if they want to get rid of black history class

It seems to me these kinds of issues (along with evolution vs. creationism, absitenence vs. sex-ed etc.) would be totally avoided if government would just stay the hell away from education all together.

You tax people to create public schools which massively shrinks the private sector (so private schools end up being just for the wealthy) and then is it any wonder that you have a massive clash of various interests trying to impose their idea of what's "best for our children" on everyone ?

I agree with you. I so want to get my kids out of public school but just don't have enough money to do it yet.

That can happen anywhere I'm not with them though. Society is falling apart.

The only other answer is home schooling and that might just be what I do next year for them. I'm beyond pissed off with the education system.

I hear kids don't get raped in home school unless it is West Virginia.
jk

:cool:No matter what brick and mortar building you send them to to sit in front of a few different teachers for 30 to 40 hrs a week...the biggest factor in a child's education is what happens at home.:2 cents:

A school is only a place with teachers and books, if parents don't prepare their kids to learn before they get there...it doesn't matter where you send them.

Kids perform better in pvt. schools not because of the school or the teachers..but because the parents and students generally have more incentive because of what they are paying.

The one thing I would change about public school...make it easier to get rid of the kids who make it difficult for others to learn.

Forfeit your right to go until you prove you want to be there and not ruin it for other kids.

Even if you send them private they'll be alongside proper snooty rich kids who are from very wealthy backgrounds and may bully them if they dig into their background. In the UK it's not just money but also status amongst the kids at private schools, even if the average joe scrapes together enough money to send them private they may never be looked upon as equal by all the privileged kids and may get depressed or even bullied there so bear that in mind.

Under the ban, sent to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer by the state legislature Thursday, schools will lose state funding if they offer any courses that "promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, promote resentment of a particular race or class of people, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals."
You don't legitimately believe this, do you? How does history promote anything? They're leaving out a gigantic chunk of history that is pretty significant. What happened to history repeating itself, guys?

That may be so but what of it?

Whether you're looking down or up your nose at someone in that situation...it's still the same education and they're graduating from the same school.

well, if you read the U.S constitution. And understand it, it kinda does make sense:2 cents:

God damn 10 minute rule.

I feel I left out that this incident and the accent law are now apart of history. Imagine hundreds of years down the line - Not only is black history important (although not all of us ever evolved), but OUR history will be important. Black history is a pretty important part, it showed us how god awful humanity can be. Eventually, we learned from this, but unfortunately some people haven't caught on. Now imagine that applied to today's history. Future generations will be doomed if our stupidity as man isn't accounted for and forgotten.
