I'm interpreting this question being related to which city has the best, most-informed and most-passionate fans....not necessarily the best current teams. Iceman....amirite? :dunno:

Small market probably Toronto or Minneapolis/St.

1. Toronto is not a small market, its the fifth largest market in North America.
2. Toronto sucks. Like, only the Leafs are supported. The Raptors and Jays get the scraps. Really, Canadian cities are horrible sporting towns. Outside of hockey and a couple cities with a CFL team I cannot think of a city that supports their teams on the same level that cities like Boston and Chicago do.

I was going to say, WTF was I thinking after that post? And I'm not even drunk right now. I think my inner psyche/subconscious pandering to the Canadian crowd.

OTOH Canadians and basketball and baseball is much more a foreign concept to begin with, so one can't much blame them for giving the middle finger to concepts like NBA or MLB. Look at the Griz and the Expos. I do believe they'd much rather watch a lacrosse game than either one of those...or curling. :1orglaugh

I'd argue the Grizzlies and Expos were more victims of horrible ownership and management then purely a lack of fan support, but yeah, basketball in particular seems to be foreign to Canadians at large. The older crowd knows baseball because of the days of Alomar and Carter, but anyone who wasn't alive in 1993 knows nothing about baseball, either. Unless it is in Toronto and is either the NBA or MLB, minor pro basketball and baseball just do not exist in Canada. I'd even go out on a limb and say that Saskatoon is the downright worst sports city I have ever seen in my life; I can think of at least five sports teams in the past decade that folded due to lack of support. But since it isn't a major city...

I have never experienced the fans of any of these cities first hand, so I'm basing my opinion soley on the products I see on television. Boston has been dominant in three of the "big four" sports over the past decade, and for that I choose them.

Is somewhere outhere.
Out of the list I'd go for NYC,and would love to see a Rangers game
at Madison Square Garden :)

Infact I might just do that next year :nanner:

Agreed. There's nothing else to do there except get drunk or go bowling (or both) so therefore St. Louis fans are incredibly educated and passionate.

The only thing St.Louis has is the Cardinals, I'm not from there but it seems as if Cardinals baseball is everything down there. Do people really get hyped for Rams football? the Blues?

Chicago fans have shown a willingness to continue to support losing teams for decades. Wrigley never put reasonable money for talent into the Cubs, and same for Halas with the Bears. Didn't matter the fans still filled the stadium. They are long gone now but the viewpoint still remains with most of the Chicago team owners.

And what about high school and college? Sorry but I think St. Lou' is not even close.

And I just found out St. Paul (Minneapolis) has America's largest curling club, with a good waiting list as well. I would say the TC is by far the best small market sports town. Still king would be Chi or Boston.

Your point is well taken. However, perhaps the Question should have been more concise. As in "City with Best Baseball Fans". Or, "City with Best Football Fans", etc.

Cardinals are pretty huge but besides that St.Louis isn't much of a sporting town compared to Chicago or Boston

Didn't Chicago totally give up on the Blackhawks up until about four years ago?

Their issue is the other teams in town besides the Cardinals don't have the history that can compare with other towns like Chicago, New York and Boston. However, Blues fans are very passionate and knowledgeable even though the team has NEVER won a Stanley Cup (Since 1967....43 years and counting!) and the Rams have a very short history (although prior to the recent series of teams that have been absolutely wretched in comparison to the "Greatest Show on Turf" teams of the early 2000s) so St. Louis probably comes up short due to overall variety (St. Louis also lacks an NBA team so that hurts them). I just know the people and fans in that town from having grown up there and I know first-hand how passionate and educated they are. Baseball-wise, no one can touch them.
