i have never ever had a new bed,:(

when i was a kid, i slept in a single bed that my parents got from a second hand store and i had it until after i graduated and moved out, and i could not take the bed with me, so i got another one from a second hand store

then i moved again, out of town, and i could not take the bed so i got another used bed from a friends parents

i am now back living in the town i originally lived in and i have the old bed i had as a kid, it really sucks, the frame broke so the mattress is right on the floor

my couch has a more comfy fold out bed, but my apartment is so small that there is no room to unfold it

consider that most every spec of dust in your home is either dust mite poo or broken, dried up dust mite corpse ! I . . . I won't be going to bed 'till I buy me some hypoallergenic mattress, comforter and pillow covers. The videos from post 34 have freaked me out !

damn ! :shy:

We have a queen size memory foam. Normal mattresses were killing my wife's back, Sleep Number was way too expensive, and latex foam wasn't any firmer than a normal mattress. We'll never get anything else again.

And a tip for those looking at memory foam, but can't afford Tempur-pedic: look for a Boyd Respona-flex. That's what we got. The 10" "Allure" feels absolutely identical to the Tempur-pedic "Deluxebed", but we paid $600 for it (with the foundation), instead of $2700. Saved our budget... and my wife's back.

i have slept outside on a dirty street before, so these videos dont scare me one bit
I hear ya, I've slept in sand, rocks, mud, cots, and all sorts of crap.... I've even slept in cars... so this bed talk is just making me want something more than what I got... time to get a King i guess

While latex isn't often any firmer than what's available in a traditional matress, they do last longer and do not "sag in" nearly as much, even versus some memory foams. Versus memory foam, they are a crapload cooler, which is ideal for those of us who live in warm climates.

There are several manufacturers. Ironically, some of the most inexpensive are based on the US (because we're still a big chemical producing nation).

I cannot remember the brands, but when I looked at memory foam options a year ago, there were several that were firmer and longer lasting than the Tempur-pedic. Of course, there were also much weaker ones as well, like the ones sold at Costco/Sams. The most firm with the least sag over time was also the most inexpensive, mail-order to save on the marketing, stock, etc... costs (again, when I looked at them a year ago). Even some of the local sales people at various stores confirmed that when I brought up the ratings, and we talked about how much it costs to market, stock, etc... mattresses, especially the heavy foams.

But, again, in the end I ended up going with a high-end latex product. My home is in a warm climate and I'm not a small guy so I would wear out anything Tempur-predic firmness (or less, like what you typically get from Sams/Costco). Getting a return item for 60% off was hard to pass up when I ran into it. I waited about 6 months before finding that deal.
