Automotive things going-on

I REALLY need to get a Faraday bag, now that I have a keyless-starting car..

"Auto technology has evolved and many newer cars use wireless key fobs and push-button starters instead of traditional metal keys. The fob sends a short-range signal, so when the driver approaches the car, it automatically unlocks the door. This saves you the hassle of digging out your keys when you've got your hands full with groceries.

But that technology also makes things easier for thieves. The wireless fob will continue to emit a signal even if you're not using it. Thieves prowl neighborhoods at night looking for cars parked outside so they can carry out so-called relay attacks. Using portable equipment that can pick up the faint signal from a fob inside the house or parking lot, they relay it back to a transmitter that can clone the signal."

Oh, shit.. Don't expect your auto insurance rates to go down anytime soon..

"In 2021, insurers’ personal auto businesses started recording losses. According to David Blades, an analyst for AM Best, the industry lost $4 billion in 2021, $33 billion in 2022 and roughly $17 billion last year."

I haven't talked to my wife yet, she pays that bill, but a good friend of mine, who owns a KIA or Hyundai, told me yesterday his auto insurance went up $140.00 a year. He owns an older model, a couple of years old, and it isn't a fancy one Like a Forte or something. We have a bundle with home, car and my bike, so who knows what I'm going to be looking at. Thieving mother fuckers.

Beware "free, helpful" smart phone apps while in the car..

"The smartphone apps collecting driver data may not be obvious at first glance. One, Life360, is used by parents to keep track of their children. MyRadar offers weather forecasts. GasBuddy helps people save on fuel costs.

All of these apps also have opt-in driving analysis features that rely on sensor and motion data from the phone. You can turn on these features to get notifications if a family member crashes or suggestions for a more fuel-efficient route to work. Those features, though, are provided by an analytics company, Arity, which was founded by Allstate in 2016 and pays for access to the data. What is not made clear when people sign up for the features is that Arity also analyzes how risky their driving is for insurance purposes."

It's tough to completely fault them though. I don't know about the other apps, but Gasbuddy is super helpful and is totally free (apart from the analytics). I guess you have to make the call between whether the data you give them is worth the free service.

What?? I've done 101 in a Kia Stinger GT2, 115 in a Pontiac Firebird Formula, and 120 in a Ford Mustang SVT Cobra! (None were close to being redlined, either!)

Oooooo! A limited-run Yenko C8 Corvette, with a custom-built 1,000HP twin-turbo V8! Buy a C8 Corvette, write a check for $99,995 for the package, and it is YOURS!!

Is that $100k for the add on only, or is the actual car included?

The color, eh? In case I didn't share my "new-to-me" car purchase last November:

I like that color too. When ever I look at a color, I think how it would look on a Harley, and certain old muscle cars. That blue would look nice on a Super Bee, or an Impala SS fastback.
