Aw fuck I've been dreading this day 
Feels like I lost a member of my ******
A superb human being. A great role model to me in my youth. A true American icon.
As sj1 noted he also did a lot of great charity work, and served as a spectacular non official US ambassador around the world.
This one is one I won't be shaking off any time soon

I did not know him personally but did get to know his game.
I knew something was wrong not by knowing what his friends knew of his condition but by observation.
He did not hit a ceremonial drive at the masters but was there on a bench- most likely helped there one last time for the masters.
When jack Nicklaus was announced there eyes met and arnie was holding back tears- something in that scene shouted to me he was at the masters for the last time and would not live to see another one.
they will have to replace him with tiger wood soon
I was also thinking that they should have a 10 or 20 yr reunion tribute to those 3 who wore the old time outfits like gene sarazin - remember the 3 or 4 who hit the ceremonial drives in the 80s and 90s. (I figure they could dress in the old time outfits to commemorate the 30s golfers)
They could open up a few more ceremonial tee slots at the masters or have the 9 hole tournament with all the players dressed in 20-30 outfits.
