wheat prices are skyrocketing on the futures markets; oil is approaching $85 dollars and some say it could reach $90/100 if we experience a really harsh winter; note also how the futures traders ignored the Opec decision to pump more oil into the market (yeah, right!); food prices ARE increasing across the board. Does this look a reduction in inflation to anyone. And still the Fed will cut.

on the news today, some commentators are talking about $200 oil being a possibility:eek:

Unlikely to happen at least anytime soon. If it were to happen that would mean that virtually all the other alternative fuels would be competetive or much cheaper to use than oil. Then, ironically, the price would become cheaper because there would be so much less demand. OPEC and any other producer willl do whatever it takes to avoid that.

GM, which is known to be a "we care" company, (just like Phillip Morris), squashed the electric car over 10 years ago in favor of what they do best, crude designs that are not fuel efficient and are sold on some lower middle class presumption of status they created. Some people will just accept whatever is handed down to them, and think complaining will help somehow? At some point, it will become impossible to live.

Seems like a good idea, but what do you more proficient economists think?

Yesterday night I saw the CEO of Deutsche Bank on TV. The interviewer asked him:

"How far are we away from a Black Friday"?

I'd say, since Black Friday happened in 1929, we're 78 years away from it... :1orglaugh

I believe that the US economy cannot be fixed. Until it collapses, and they start from scratch, it will continue to get worse, unfortunately. It might not happen anytime soon, but it will happen. Just because the population will increase so much and it wont be able to cope. I have the same sort of feelings towards the UK economy aswell. So yes I am worried about the economy of both the US and UK.

I'm worried about the economy. i'm always watching my back to see if the economy is coming.

there is no economy. everyone knows that the economy is just a figment of imagination. it's the first thing that they tell you in economics 101. what it really is is a bunch of guys with guns (or guys that control the guys with guns) that want to make everyone do what they want to.

I don't need to buy a house. I can build my own fucking house. It's those assholes that won't let me.

Israel declares Gaza "enemy entity" as Rice visits
JERUSALEM, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Israel declared the Gaza Strip an "enemy entity" on Wednesday and said it would reduce its fuel and power supplies to the Hamas-run territory in response to rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.

Hamas described the move, complicating a visit to the region by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to prepare for a U.S.-led Middle East peace conference, as a declaration of war.

Like i said before, oil could easily reach $90-100 very soon. An attack on Iran early on in 2008 now looks likely also. Just How likely?:dunno:
Dow closing in on 14000 - exceeding the all-time high in June.
