I can't help but watch it in some form (live, replay, commentary, discussion) - it will be on every channel.

As long as Brazil wins, I don't care what happens.

(Here come 58 million of my countrymen to haul me away....)

...watch all the matches I can. I will be supporting France because Northern Ireland are not in it. Sadly that 1-0 win over ENGLAND was not enough...
Thanks for supporting france mate :hatsoff:, I hope this worldcup will be much interesting with quality football and fairplay.
I hope it will not be so easy for the brazil. Czech, Spain and netherland shouldn't be so much underestimated ;)

and here are some computer predictions about football :

I didn't realise that Cloudcuckooland had a population of 58 million!;)

i hear the florae and faunae are big football supporters over there!

probably not. last time they put it all over at crazy time and I had no idea when it was on, and usualy it was on at like 2 in the morning.

I haven't been follwing any football the last two seasons, so I have no idea how anything is shaping up.

being a fan of the priemership, and my favorite tourney to watch, i'll be watching for England.

Other countries of intrest will be Brazil, Mexico, Canada (just kidding!) Jamaica, and there were some african teams that put on a good game last time around, but I am bad with geography.

Will Iraq be playing this year? When they played the US at the start of the war last time around, it was truly a beautiful thing and gave me some hope for humanity yet.

Overall I'm afraid that I'll have to be going for Germany as the winners (wether they can pull it off or not, I have no idea, and I'm not going to be taking bets.)

and I'll be rooting for USA! I feel like sticking up for the underdogs.

Of course I am and here in Toronto being such a multi cultural city the street parties are amazing whenever ANY country wins a game...and hoping Ronaldo will lead Portugal to Glory...

Ah yes, the burning question on most people's minds: will the floppy-haired fairy princess be a complete burn-out yet again in a major tournament?

I actually lived in Korea when the 2002 World Cup was being played and I didn't even watch a single match. I was kind of cut off from the outside world at that time and I'm not really a big fan of the sport to begin with. We did however celebrate in Seoul with the millions in red after South Korea won. I think it was after their round of 16 win... It was a great time.

A week later my friends and I were headed out to a bar and they informed me that if the Koreans won that night and if the Americans won their match, they would meet in the semi-finals. I got a little upset, because I didn't want to have to root against the Koreans in favor of my home country. Then it suddenly hit me, "Wait a minute... the U.S. is in the quarter-finals??? WTF?" :dunno: :1orglaugh I had no idea we were even in the World Cup, let alone still alive in the tournament... :1orglaugh Now I regret not at least going and hanging outside one of their games with the rest of my countrymen, because it was right around where I lived. I just had no idea....oh well.

Anyway to answer your question, yes, I will be watching THIS time.

Well seen as your on about France 98 and it was Iran who beat the USA 1-0, not Iraq. The reason this was such a big game was because relations between the two countries has always been strained to say the least.

absolutely, only in my country we call it football, don't like to call it soccer really. here in europe, it's a major sport.

what the fuck you lookin at?
No thanks I hate soccer

Iraq are not here but IRAN will be, and I'll be rooting for them because (a) they are unfairly labelled as a terrorist state and (b) they were almost excluded from the tournament because of politics. Do you know how much support would be gained for the government amongst the otherwise-rebellious population if we banned them from the World Cup? Leading the campaign to ban them were: US and UK.

Well that kind of sucks if thats true. I don't keep up with that stuff, but banning Iran from such a 'coming together' event is just plain wrong. I will say this for Iran though, their team showed a lot of class in '98 just before and after they beat up on the US. It was widely reported what great ambassadors they were for Iran here. Unlike Mexico in '02 when they got their asses handed to them. Sore losers - NO class at all.

Football is nearly all people in the UK play, well around my area anyway. If you go down to the park on a sunday there are at least 6 matches going on, whether that be Sunday League or just a couple of wee lads messin' about. I haven't seen another sport being played in the park where I live for a couple of years, seriously. I don't know how it isn't the Number 1 sport in the USA. I think they need to do more to promote it and they need to up the standard of football in the USA. :2 cents:

Sorry if I offend anyone saying this but an example of this would be Freddy Adu. Very promising, and I really think he will come to the premiership within the next few seasons. Most likely Chelsea... Be honest, if you look at the quality in Europe compared to USA, its not the same. BUT, this is my opinion because I love football so much its not even funny.

I am going to admit it, I did cry when Arsenal lost the Champions League final to Barcelona. I'm not ashamed because I'm sure we all have our emotional moments...:o

The sport is extremely popular in the U.S. The grass roots movement is spreading like wildfire, despite a massive media bias against the sport (because it is seen as un-American, or more stereotypically, a woman's sport - little do they know the beautiful game is for everyone)...

Uh...negative. It may be popular in the Northeast as an up and coming sport and as a kids sport, but everywhere else its not that big. I played organized 'soccer' all the way up till I got to high school. Thats where the sport dies out in our country mainly. Thats where basketball, baseball, and especially American football takes hold, as well as all the other sports out there.

Soccer is not rooted in our culture, like for example: baseball. People that grow up rooting for one team in their area tend to latch onto that sport - no matter how boring it may seem. Loyalty is set in. That can be said for everywhere in the world. Until the major pro market catches on here in the US like it has in Europe and other places, the sport of football (soccer) will never be that big here. :2 cents:

No, I hear ya fox. The game just needs a longer foot hold here. (no pun intended) Maybe in 50 years it will be like that. I'm sure it will definitely have grown by then. There are just way to many sports out there to choose from around here right now. The MLS was a good first step and we can thank the '94 world cup for that. Its just gonna take time - a lot of time.

I love Australia, and Guus Hiddink, but I'm really pissed at the Australians for injuring 3 of the starters in a so-called friendly against the Oranje of Holland. The Australians are gonna go postal on the Croatians, Brazillians and Japanese! Look out, Ronaldinho and Kaka! If you're gonna kick someone, kick Ronaldo! ;) Joke. I don't wish injury on anyone. I still want the Socceroos into the Second Round. I couldn't give a Castlemaine XXXX about Croatia, but I like Japan too, what with Zico as the coach. Whoever wins the group, I have tickets to see their second round game against the runner up of E. I want to see Brazil.

I, too, am cheering for Australia and Japan because of their coaches (Hiddink and Zico). I know Hiddink is a brilliant coach so I have high expectations from Australia.
You're lucky to go see that game, probably Brazil againt a very strong team since Group E is the death Group (along with Argentina's group). I'm hoping to see my boy Nedved take out the might Brazil, although I probably won't.
