I know soccer/football isn't as popular in the US as in a lot of other countries so thats why I was wondering, are you going to watch it? And if yes wich team will you support?

If not, why not?

:glugglug:

of course the world cup is the greatest sporting event ever

the worlds greatest players all showing us why they are so great

i wont really be supporting any one particular team

i just hope the stronger teams

such as england brazil argentina italy germany go far so we see as much beautiful football as possible

Not really. I will rather watch some vintage movies with clint eastwood, steve mc queen or charles bronson than watch football.

Yes of course I'm going to watch the football world cup. But I'm going to have to be relegated to watching the highlights most days. As over here the kickoff times are 2pm, 5pm, 8pm and I'll be at work from 1.30pm to 10.30pm. So the only live games I'll see are the ones on saturday's and sunday's. Which also means I'll miss 2 of England's games too:( so it will be the old radio for them games and they always make the worst games sound good:1orglaugh

of course I'll watch it ;)
I gonna boycott my work the day when the France is playing :D

I'm supporting mostly the french team, I hope they will reach at least the quarters. And for the final winner I just hope it won't be brazil, it's so boooring to see them winning all time :crying:

I've finished exams for the summer, and I've yet to get a summer job, so I am totally FREE! Wahoo that means I'm watching every game, every re-run of each game and every highlight show. I am gonna live in the bar!

Has anyone seen else seen this list, I'm unsure of its origins, got sent it in an email:

Extremely important advice and recommendations to be passed on to wives, girlfriends, fiancés, mothers, sisters, daughters, etc. (to all women in
general) These rules are to be communicated prior to the World Cup in
June/July this year...

LIST OF RULES

1. From 9 June to 9 July 2006, you should read the sports section of the
newspaper so that you are aware of what is going on regarding the World Cup,
and that way you will be able to join in the conversations. If you fail to
do this, then you will be looked at in a bad way, or you will be totally
ignored. DO NOT complain about not receiving any attention.

2. During the World Cup, the television is mine, at all times, without any
exceptions. If you even take a glimpse of the remote control, you will lose
it (your eye).

3. If you have to pass by in front of the TV during a game, I don't mind, as
long as you do it crawling on the floor and without distracting me. If you
decide to stand nude in front of the TV, make sure you put clothes on right
after because if you catch a cold, I wont have time to take you to the
doctor or look after you during the World Cup month.

4. During the games I will be blind, deaf and mute, unless I require a
refill of my drink or something to eat. You are out of your mind if you
expect me to listen to you, open the door, answer the telephone, or pick up
the baby that just fell from the second floor....it wont happen.

5. It would be a good idea for you to keep at least 2 six packs in thefridge
at all times, as well as plenty of things to nibble on, and please do not
make any funny faces to my friends when they come over to watch the games.
In return, you will be allowed to use the TV between 12am and 6am, unless
they replay a good game that I missed during the day.

6.Please, please, please!! if you see me upset because one of my teams is
losing, DO NOT say "get over it, its only a game", or "don't worry, they'll
win next time". If you say these things, you will only make me angrier and I
will love you less. Remember, you will never ever know more about football
than me and your so called "words of encouragement" will only lead to a
break up or divorce.

7. You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me
during halftime but only when the commercials are on, and only if
thehalftime score is pleasing me. In addition, please note I am saying "one"
game, hence do not use the World Cup as a nice cheesy excuse to "spend time
together".

8. The replays of the goals are very important. I don't care if I have seen
them or I haven't seen them, I want to see them again. Many times.

9. Tell your friends NOT to have any babies, or any other child related
parties or gatherings that requires my attendance because:a) I will not
go,b) I will not go, andc) I will not go.

10. But, if a friend of mine invites us to his house on a Sunday to watch a
game, we will be there in a flash.

11. The daily World Cup highlights show on TV every night is just
asimportant as the games themselves. Do not even think about saying "but you
have already seen this...why don't you change the channel to something we
can all watch??", the reply will be: "Refer to Rule #2 of this list".

12. And finally, please save your expressions such as "Thank God the World
Cup is only every 4 years". I am immune to these words, because after this
comes the Champions League, Italian League, Spanish League, Premier League,
etc etc.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Regards,
Men of the World

Yay for misogyny!

I don't know why but I found that to be a funny and pretty cool statement. Another classic one to go in the Georges folder. ;) :1orglaugh

As for myself, to be honest, no I probably won’t watch it. It isn't my favorite sport, but I would give it a shot. Unfortunately nobody else around me likes it and they’re not going to sit there and watch it just so I can.

There's a world cup this year?

I've heard absolutely nothing about it...:dunno: ;)

Not sure, probably not. I am not interested in sports and games at all, but sometimes there are matches worth watching... otherwise, I think I'll keep on preferring watching movies...

i will watch several matches i'm sure. Maybe not the entire match, but i will watch some.

I will cheer for the good 'ol USA...and then maybe i'll see who the underdog is and go for them.

Yes I shall be watching it. I will support Holland as I am going to put money on them winning it. Angola will also get support as one of my favourite players is Angolan (Jose Quitongo). Togo will also recieve a mild support as my favourite kebab shop is called To Go.
Petty reasons but my country isn't there nor are any players from the team I follow, but at least it is better than most of my fellow Scot's answer to who they will support - Which is anyone who plays England.

I can't help but watch it in some form (live, replay, commentary, discussion) - it will be on every channel.

As long as Brazil wins, I don't care what happens.

(Here come 58 million of my countrymen to haul me away....;))

If I have the time, I will watch all that I can because I love football! And I need to see how good certain players will perform for the upcoming season like Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott, Thierry Henry, Jose Antonio Reyes, Philippe Senderos, Freddie Ljungberg, Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Jens Lehmann, Ashley Cole, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor etc. Those players are from alot of different countries so I'll probably try and watch all the matches I can. I will be supporting France because Northern Ireland are not in it :(. Sadly that 1-0 win over ENGLAND was not enough... ;)
