I've always wondered about that "Over the shoulder mode". Combined with the 3D, shouldn't it be close to a First-Person Fighting game?

I haven't tried it yet. Possibly its better than the normal, but not what I was looking for. Maybe it'll surprise me, doubt it though. I'll fire it up and report back.

Over the shoulder mode. OK, here we go.

So, as I kinda figured, this mode was better. Not in the way that I want to enjoy this mode and I bought it for that, but in a way it sucks less.

Kinda.

I'll explain. So, there's more fluidity, but still stuff. It kinda reminds me of Mortal Kombat 3 when they invented the run mechanic. It kinda feels like that where you want to just walk up to each other and button mash some combos instead of jump forward, kick, hit down, sweep. You know, Street Fighter.

Now, don't get me wrong. This made it a little more enjoyable as far as it sucking less. Until you realize, depth and judging distance is fucked. It's brutally hard to determine how close they are for a kick or punch or a special move. Jumping into them, or worse, them jumping into you, good luck. It all looks like they are going to jump over you or land way short.

I played as Guile last night. I usually play him as a reaction fighter. Hold down-back and wait to spring a either sonic boom or flash kick if they jump at you. It doesn't work that well.

Redeeming factors? The shorties are a little interesting. Some seem corny, but there's mythos about some of em. The cheater touchpad lets you just tap things to do your super moves and special moves. Its cheap but you dont need to use em. If you do, however, you can sonic boom someone and immediately flash kick em which was impossible until now (that 2 second charge thing and all).

Interesting. Nice review Adam!

The mode sounded like a unique twist to the standard 2D fighter. First person fighting games are a rarity, so the idea of playing SF from that perspective seemed pretty cool. Combined with 3D, I would have thought the effect would have been pretty cool.
Just imagining Vega/Blanka/Honda flying at your face, or a close-up of Chun/Cammy's butt in your face seems pretty enticing ;) Maybe it will make its way into a PSVR/Occulus game someday.

Is the distance thing not a learning curve issue? It sounds like something you could get accustomed to if you had the time/energy. I could totally see what you mean by it being hard to adjust to, coming from all those years of 2D and nailing the timing based on that.

Yeah, I will see if I can adjust. My biggest thing is, I just wanted a classic experience. Maybe its my fault for not understanding this was its main attraction as a game, although its not that way be default.

PS+.. I've had it for about a year or so. I think.. maybe I'm over it. I dont use the share controller thing. And the monthly games are.. eh. I've had fun with some, but they are usually 19.99 games that go on sale anyway. Should I keep it? Should I dump it? GameFly is prolly good enough for me.

The only real reason to have PS+ is to play multiplayer. If you want to play against other players in Street Fighter V, Red Dead Online, Grand Theft Auto Online etc.... then you need it. Only a handful of games, mostly free-to-play like DC Universe Online, let you play without PS+.

if you have a playstation..always check the playstation store....always a sale on. whether its good or not that is random LOL

3DS retro gamers will want to check out the Sega Classics on sale for 50% off. Sale is over soon!

Grabbed OutRun 3D, which looks AMAZING in 3D. Hard to believe that came out in 1986, when the NES was still playing Zelda & metroid.

Other 3D classics like Afterburner & Space Harrier, as well as other Sega classics remastered in 3D (Sonic, Fantasy Zone, Altered Beast, etc) are all worth a look as well. I don't think they go on sale very often.

Yeah, I ended up canceling it. I don't play multiplayer ever ever. I think it's stupid they charge for it anyway, not that I want to do it. It seems nickel and dimey for sure.

Another reason why I'm content with the PS3. GTA, RDR, Destiny and a whole slew of other games are still going strong online, all for free.

On the PS3 service? How long do you think they'll keep that up?

It seems like it's up to the publisher and not sony. Yes, game servers are closing every now and then, but they're dependent on the company and not sony shutting down the service altogether. Seems like sony will keep PS3 access up for as long as the publishers are willing to keep them online, and they seem perfectly content doing so as long as there are players.

PS3 players (and I guess PS4) might want to check out the year end sale on PSN on till Dec 23. It's not often PS3 gets multiple games on legit sale these days.
SF IV Ultra for $3, Borderlands (1&2), BioShock (1&2) for $4, etc... Even some PS1/2 game which rarely go on sale are there too like Suikoden.
