Anti virus help etc

So my new laptop came preinstalled with two virusses (virii?); Windows 8 and Mcaffee.
How do I get rid of Mcaffee adware when the free trial expires and what should I replace it with?

I don't have any experience with Windows 8, but with the previous windows you can go to your control panel, click on uninstall a program, and find McAfee on the list and click uninstall. However, I am not sure if the process is any different for Windows 8.

As far as a replacement goes, I recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. I use it myself and haven't had any problems in the 3 years I've been using it.

Free software: AVG is still one of the best. But there are certainly other good ones as well.

Paid or subscription: Kaspersky and Trend Micro for PCs and Virus Barrier for Macs.

The real trick is how to get rid of the worst virus that you seem to have on your PC: Windows 8. Microsloth has a new version of that malware coming out soon (8.1?) or I'd revert back to Windows 7.

As to how to remove McAfee?
You'll first remove it via the regular way via the Add / Remove or Programs & Features method, whichever Windows 8 has.

Then you'll use the McAfee MCPR Tool (McAfee Consumer Product Removal) to remove any remnants.

You can download it at MajorGeeks.

The instructions for both steps are even there in the link.

Norton and McAfee are two of the worst viruses you can ever catch, I don't bother with anti-virus these days, it's a bit like how some of the vaccines are more harmful than the disease they are meant to prevent

I go with Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows because it integrates perfectly with the OS. No reason to pay for anything if you don't have to and you can put your money towards better stuff like games!
