Regardless of whether you're a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, you have to be concerned about the laughable lack of security in the electronic voting machines being used across the country.
They're easy to crack, far too prone to errors -- we just had a test go awry here in Florida -- and the software for this whole mess has been classified as "proprietary" by the private companies manaufacturing the machines so in many cases government agencies are stymied when trying to examine just exactly what is going on inside the black box.
And worst of all: the vast majority offer no paper trail. I just went through my training to work at the polls on Nov. 2, and I'm encouraging everyone -- just like the Republican party is doing -- to vote on a piece of paper. Either via mail in, absentee, or if your district offers the option while you're at the polls.

We've already seen the deterioration of the American voting process to where it's less fair and secure than many 3rd world countries. The Carter foundation -- a group that has been working for years to spread democracy around the world without blowing **** up -- says the system in place in many states wouldn't pass the same test of transperancy that many countries that don't have armies provide for their citizenry.
Unfortunately my native Florida is just one such example.
I'll readily admit I'm no fan of neocon politics. The fact that George's ******* Jeb and Kathrine Harris incorrectly and ILLEGALLY purged tens of thousands of voters from the rolls in 2000 -- the vast majority of whom were black, and black voters, almost without exception, vote Democrat -- makes me all the more determined to insure it doesn't happen again.
But I'll fight to the death for a Republican's right to cast a vote for anyone he sees fit. We simply must insure that all Americans, regardless of party affiliation, have an equal and legal opportunity to cast their vote, and that the process which counts those votes is totally transparent for all.
That's why we need to take a good hard look at these machines and the workings of our election officials. If ANY party -- Dem, Repub, Green, or Venutian -- can wield undo influence on the process, we're all in trouble.
Any horror stories of the election process gone awry are welcomed. We have to keep our eye on these folks.
