Americanisms...

These is mainly about words actions or whatever is exclusively american and completely different to the rest of the world.

Why do Americans call biscuits cookies? Or are cookies biscuits?

Is it flavour or flavor?

Football or soccer?

Is everything really super-sized in the states?

etc...

:dunno:

Discuss.

Cookies are things with chocolate chips in them. Biscuits are things that you get at KFC.

It's Flavor. we don't believe in "U" in America, only "I".

Football is a sport played by men on a field with a ball. Soccer is a game played by children and weird foreigners.

Nothing is Super-Sized anymore because of negative publicity from the film. Of course all fast food places allow you to upgrade to larger sizes, they just stopped calling it that.

The one and only.
Bill Bryson discusses this rather well in "Made in America: An Informal History of the English Language in the United States." (see here). Most of your questions are answered here. It's a great read, highly recommended. Not all of his anecdote and histories are correct, but he gets most of them right.

The word NeoCon has become as American as Apple pie.

A lot of these things were created to differentiate ourselves against England. Today, with modern globalization being a corporate america jizzbomb, a lot of these differentiations get in the way of "business" :dunno:

Apparently somewhere in our Constitution it says it is our "god given right" to be the fattest nation on the planet.
