American Retro Design Cars: Best/Worst

Which is the best so far and which is the worst retro design?

Of the top of my head I would have to say the Thunderbird was the most underwhelming (worst) IMO.

Have to think about the best for a bit.

what the fuck you lookin at?
by retro design you mean redesign? If that's the case then they are all shit! Why not try making new models instead of trying to cash in on a bygone era? Besides, anyone who knows anything at all about cars knows that even though the vehicle may say charger, for example, it's clearly NOT a fuckin charger!!! Nor is it a challenger, camaro, mustang, thunderbird, etc...

maybe I misunderstood your intentions with this thread, but that's how I read it.

No, retro design... Every time a manufacturer changes a model that's is considered a mere redesign...but not all redesigns are retro style.

Regarding the rest of what you said....meh...lol

I like the Mustang looks better than Camaro or Challenger. A few months ago I dropped off a friend at his nearby Dodge dealer (wife's SUV getting service) I looked at the Challengers in the showroom, 13MPG!!! are they <bleeping> nuts in 2010!!! less than 20MPG!!!!

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Just on design (not quality or performance or anything else), as far as pony cars, I like the Challenger best, then the Mustang and finally the Camaro least.

Another design I liked, that wasn't very popular (and was severely underpowered), was the Chevy SSR quasi pickup. Not many other people did (apparently), but I liked the looks of it. :dunno: Course, my auto tastes are a bit odd, since I also liked the Dodge Magnum station wagon/"The Hearse" and the Plymouth Prowler. And it goes without saying that I liked the Cobra inspired Viper (mainly the 2nd generation - couldn't stand the last ones: Corvette wannabes). Yeah, I didn't care for the Thunderbird either. Pretty sad effort, IMO.

after the Thunderbird bombed I am surprised went for it with the mustang. I am glad they did however because the fox body's and the 94-2004 models look pretty bland IMO.

I think the Mustang is the best by far, the Challenger is good, not a super big fan of the Charger but the Camaro.......Jesus just GM trying wayyyyy too fucking hard, such a Ugly ass car!

But the Best one might have to be the new Beetle when it came out

Just yesterday I saw a metallic burnt orange Camaro on what looked to be 26' wheels...

I just did my best to keep my lunch down..

The Challenger wins hands down.

It looks most in line with its predecessors than any of the others. The Challenger is what American muscle should be... big, intimidating, heavy, angry, and fast. Anybody bringing up gas mileage in a muscle car conversation needs to find their way back to the Prius thread. When it comes to that retro pony car look, the chally is the real deal. The Camaro looks good as well. The Mustang is a very distant third place. The new Mustang is a joke. Smaller and lighter, its not really retro at all. Any model other than the cobra jet, cobra, Shelby and boss is for chicks around my neighborhood.

So the New 5.0 and its 412hp is a chicks car?? Its a hell of alot quicker than the Challenger and handles much better than both the Challenger and Camaro even with a live rear axel!!

Don't need handling in a half mile in Talladega. I did accidentally leave thethe 5.0 off, but with that said, I wish a 5.0 would run up a Hemi 492. That's breakfast. Besides, the challenger handles a hell of a lot better than it looks.

The Challenger is the best-looking of them all from my perspective. The Mustang looks good too....hate the Camaro and the the Charger.

VW Beetle
Ford Mustang (the 2005/6 redesign rather than this latest version which is more ahite than spectacular imo)
Challenger (I like it, but it's way too big and seems more like an aircraft carrier on the road)

Worst
Thunderbird (yeesh)
Camaro (I just don't see any connection to a previous Camaro. It truly seems like a new car with an old badge. You can actually see design cues in the Mustang, Challenger, Beetle etc).

05-09 Mustangs were the best retro design in the last 5 years. The 2010+ Camaros are nice as well. Challengers are way too big and drive like sedans.

Facetious

Moderated
The designers of the new Camaro screwed up when they strayed away from the look of the original 1969 headlight and taillight assembly design, IMO. The profile of the Camaro looks cool, but the rear end looks atrocious... who wants to be seen in the company of an atrocious rear end? :p
Half circle taillights ... are you kidding me?!!

Kudos to the designers of the Dodge Challenger and the FOMOCO Mustang for retaining the same basic theme of their 1970 headlight and taillight designs.

Dodge & FOMOCO tied for best and the bow tie last place I'm sorry to say.... and I'm a GM guy. :(

By far the worst is the Thunderbird... that thing is beyond awful.

I like the Camaro, but I can't get past the fact that I can't have a Trans-Am or Formula on the same platform. I will never forgive that, but my overall fave is certainly the Challenger. Had the opportunity to drive my friends, and I'm in total lust with that big boy toy. I love it's size, and I know I lot of folks say it's too big, but it's size falls directly in line with its predecessor. Plenty of room and power, and it feels like you're driving classic muscle. It is a great driving experience.

I would suggest that anyone that truly loves American muscle to get in one and push it on an open strip. I can't wait to have one, and I'm working on that. Soon... soon it will be mine.
