American Retro Design Cars: Best/Worst

Facetious

I would suggest that anyone that truly loves American muscle to get in one and push it on an open strip.

My first experience with this was when I was about 14 y/o as my neighbor just over the fence had bought himself a one owner '64 Impala 409 cu. in. (with the legendary ''W'' head engine) 4 speed stick... The Impala isn't my favorite GM product, but holy shiite! that thing had some get up and go... I was surprised that the front seat mounting hardware held up as it did, the g forces were amazing as the flesh on your face felt like ... like ... well, you had had wrapped it tightly in clear plastic wrap! just pure - raw - stock 400 hp!

I remember first getting into muscle when my dad was going through his mid-life crisis. He traded in the full-size family van for a 1979 Pontiac Firebird, which he bought from a family friend. After my mom found out, that guy wasn't a family friend anymore as it was 1986, and my brother was just born... making us a family of four. It was souped up with a 475 and was mean out there on the Eisenhower Expressway late nights. Blue with a crimson interior and had a marijuana and various automotive fluid smell... It was a the ugliest, most beautiful machine.

you got a list mega? I'll look up the pics myself.

Do my best (in alphabetical order so I won't be accused of 'bias'..)

Camaro
Challenger
Charger
Ford GT (GT40)
HHR (Chevy)
Mustang
Prowler
PT Cruiser
Shelby Series 1 (Olds)
SSR (Chevy)
Thunderbird

I know I missed something:thefinger:

Challenger and Camaro are beautiful cars. Indidnt mind the Thunderbird, but I'm about 45 years too young to drive one.

The Charger is the worst imo. It looks like an Avenger or some other "safe" vehicle.

Sad thing...I was just waiting (maybe even hoping for some strange reason) that just one of those cars I listed would come up as some babe in FOs dbase ala the infamous the back (yeah, aka [nobabe]the back[/nobabe]).

Is that pathetic or what....I need a smoke...

I don't like any of them that much really. They are just making a mockery trying to pretend to be something they are not.

The 'Rock' has spoken and in his traditional manner he has shot down all the choices.:1orglaugh

(Do you like anything?? Oh yea, Got Gisele...good choice:hatsoff:)

1. Ford GT
2.Mustang
3.Challenger

Camaro looks kinda like some cartoon car, like it escaped from some computer game or something. Especially interior looks childish.
Apart from that interior it`s not that bad but...not my favorite either.

But besides looks, the new 2011 Mustang is amazingly good car for what it is.
In both 5.0 and V6 forms. They`re not just fast in a straight line, but handle well too; 5.0 GT can keep up with BMW M3 on a road course, and the V6 corners even faster than both of them(but is left behind in the straights of course). Bang for the buck redefined!
The new Boss 302 leaves BMW M3 on a road course in the distance, and the Laguna Seca version just disappears in the horizon from that beemer.
And this with live rear axle, so they`ll still do the job on the drag strip as well without all that IRS wheel hop.

But what I think is sad is that they seem to be unable to desing good looking, cool cars anymore, without going that retro route. The new Camaro is kinda nice try to create at least something new, that isn`t just copied from the past, but unfortunately it doesn`t look that good.
And nearly all the "modern" looking cars are either thoroughy boring or just plain ugly.
There are some exceptions to this, but even Ferraris of today are just so forgettable they should be ashamed of themselves, whoever designed them.

In my eyes these retro muscle cars are cool for now, but are they going to recycle these same designs forever?

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.

Viper would have... if we knew her last name. And I bet about 40% of the strippers in the U.S. are named Lexus, Porsche and Mercedes. If I owned a strip club, I'd hire nothing bust Asian girls and they'd be named Honda, Toyota and Mazda. And I'd have an Indian girl named Tata too. Possibly a Swedish girl named Volvo. :1orglaugh

BTW, I wish like hell that they'd fix that "back" thing. That is annoying as all get out!

So the New 5.0 and its 412hp is a chicks car?? Its a hell of alot quicker than the Challenger and handles much better than both the Challenger and Camaro even with a live rear axel!!

Not to forget

429 Cobra Jet
0-60 mph, sec: 5.4
1/4 mile, sec @ mph: 13.9 @ 103mph

2012 Mustang GT
0 to 60 mph: 4.7 sec
¼-mile: 13.2 sec @ 108 mph

I always have a bone to pick with classic car guys. Yes, the classic muscle cars are beautiful, fast, desirable and collectable. We know you always wanted a GTO or 440 Six Pack when you were young.

Sorry, new cars may lack soul in your view, but they will run circles around any 1960's era muscle street car. period! Ok, so your is really hopped up and has a shorter gear ratio. For $8000 i can add a turbo or supercharger and the case is really close.

If I ever ran into a chick named "Viper" though, I'm sure I would go the other way (meaning the opposite direction :o) as I would fear "her" being......
