American comedy

Little bit of trivia...at the time the "Avengers" came here to the US, where it wasn't a very big hit in the UK like it was here, the No.1 hit show in the UK was reruns of the '50s American show "This Is Your Life".
A great deal of Pythons animation was tedious and unfunny, as well as a lot of the sketches; I still laugh out loud when I watch the production of "Every Sperm Is Sacred".
And I will watch the Holy Grail 'til I die, after watching the Meaning of Life, Life of Brian, and the parrot sketch to warm me up.

Different strokes, dudes and dudettes!

(...a wafer-thin mint...:rofl2: )

Simple really;

English comedy: Can't be beat.

American comedy: Does it exist?

Come on. American sitcoms are so poor. I for one don't find Fraiser funny.

Don't get me wrong, some things America make are funny. Like The Sopranos, it's side-splitting funny at times.

Fantastic English sitcoms;

Only Fools And Horses
One Foot In The Grave
Porridge
Steptoe And ***
The Office
15 Storeys High (quite possibly the mose under-rated comedy ever)
Bottom
The Young Ones
Men Behaving Badly

Fantastic American sitcoms;

Don't really agree with you on the ****** guy/simpsons thing But when it comes to Bill bailey i agree with you 100%. Do you watch Never mind the buzzcocks? :)

Yeah never mind the buzzcocks is the best quiz show ever. Purely because they don't actually give a crap if anyone answers anything right, they would just rather make jokes and have fun

That guy looks like a troll!

Indeed, thats why his last DVD was called "Part Troll" :tongue:

i think they are blatant rip-offs. im sure ive said this before, but american studio executives get rich by doing nothing. whether its a remake or a rip-off. :2 cents:

Agreed.

Did you see what those bastard Americans did to The Office?

In England it was one of the funniest and most original shows on television, and then America scoops it up and turns it into what? A god damn sitcom...

There are other types of comedy show, not just sitcoms, but it seems they haven't realised that yet.

Apparently there is an American version of The Vicar of Dibley coming soon, sure that will be completely ******** too...

Ok.

Bill Bailey

Ricky Gervais

Peter Kay

John Cleese

Tommy Cooper

Rowan Atkinson

To name a few...

And don't get me started on our television shows, because it will make America look like a bunch of humourless drones :1orglaugh

As I've already mentioned in the wrong thread,
All American shows: "Everybody Loves Raymond", "That 70's Show", "'Til Death", "Rules of Engagement", "Married ... With ********", "Fresh Prince Bel-Air", "Roseanne", "How I Met Your ******", and "Friends".

.....unless it's Richard Pryor.

don't forget Sam Kinison

and Denis Leary.

Hmm ... isn't Denis a plagiarist?

By the way, what's with the hatred for American comedy? It's like as if you haven't heard of George Carlin or Doug Stanhope or David Cross.

^ It's been a lo-o-o-ong while since I've watched that show. Gotta get back in some time.
