American comedy

Living in the uk,some of the tv comedies we have are very good. BUT (thats a big but lol) American comedy is fantastic, i mean i don't know anyone who doesn't find Fraiser funny. And Scrubs with the always funny John C Mcginley. But the best of the American comedies is, and sadly this is the last series, Everybody loves Raymond. I mean every single character is funny, the funniest being the ****** played by the deeply missed Peter Boyle. Peter boyle's best momment was in the film The Dream Team anyone who hasn't seen this movie go watch it, you will enjoy it.:hatsoff:

I don't agree at all.

America does have some great sitcoms, but about 80% of them is the same bullshit about some '******', and they recycle the same humour over and over...

But that's because America is a lot bigger, which means more rubbish. England is small, which means less rubbish :D

george carlin. enough said.

dave is right though. a lot of american comedy is based on an earlier show or act. ie. ****** guy is ripping off the simpsons. :2 cents:

****** guy is ripping off the simpsons. :2 cents:

Kinda funny how ****** guy ripped off the simpsons at first...

But now it's the simpsons ripping off ****** guy

When it comes to stand up, i recon England/America are pretty equal.

Bill Bailey is a fucking hero  (And a slayer fan). Check out youtube, loads of his stuff is on there.

Can't stand American comedy. Give me mitchell and webb or little britain any day. They are original and creative.

Don't really agree with you on the ****** guy/simpsons thing But when it comes to Bill bailey i agree with you 100%. Do you watch Never mind the buzzcocks? :)

I love Benny Hill. I couldn't wait to be old enough to find out what was so funny. Hearing mumbles of his show on late night UHF channel coming from the front room, my parents in stitches laughing and keeping me awake. Being told all the time, "you can watch this when you're grown." The first time I saw him I guess was in the late 80's his career almost behind him. He was a real hoot. He died in 1992, he was another that suffered from idiots actions and no respect after his death.

Speaking of "no respect", Rodney Dangerfield was the top of the line is U.S. comedy I think.

I also find it funny that a lot of American television shows are almost direct ripoffs of a counterpart from the UK.

I think AFA brought that up before, I unfortuatly haven't seen much from the UK. Hell, I only found out a few weeks ago I had BBC America on my dish. :(

I'm not so sure if its so much rip offs as it is collaborations. I have read in my TV guide things about being made with the cooperation of blah blah blah. :dunno: I am just glad we were sent Benny Hill, he sure made a mark here too.

LL:angels:

I meant ripoff in the sense that they are too stupid to come up with there own ideas not that they actually stole the television show.

I find that there are often gems in American comedy. But spread out between episodes. If only they'd be patient and condense their ideas into one show every 2 months instead of 1, or 4 weeks instead of 2.. then I think they'd be excellent. Quality? Quantity? Well hell, we got a ton of crap and a couple good finds in that pile o' crap. Ratio 20:1 of finding a prize!

You mean the fat funny guy with hot wife with funny ****... Most TV sitcoms seem the same to me these days...

I prefer English Comedy. Nothing has ever been (or will be) like "Monty Pythons Flying Circus"

I never understood what was supposed to be funny about Everyone loves Raymond, as shows go it has some humourous moments, but the characters involved, like someone pointed out earlier being about a ******, are so unrealistic. I thought part of the humour was that you could relate to the characters, and see how some of these recycled scenes are something weve all encounted, albeit on a smaller scale. But his ****** and ****** are two of the most annoying characters ive ever seen, to begin with they were only mildy offensive, there jokes passive and funny. But then in the newer ones it ****** being funny and became outright malicious and no woman would stand for it, and if i were in the position of raymond, I would not let my ****** speak to my wife like that.
raymond as a comedian is very poor, Ive listened to him on aol comedy and all he does is make jokes about his ********. I dont care about his childs inability to speak on the phone or his two year old sons erection (Thats just poor taste right there) even the audience laughter at parts seemed ******.

Paramount is a channel I spent a lot of time on and 75% of it is good stuff, ned and stacey (Loved that), scrubs (Go Dr Cox), frasier, and even the new "less than perfect" tickles me a little, one of my all time favourites mash as well.

Monty Python though I just look at and cant understand, I listened to a skit earlier and all they did for 5 minutes was chant "Spam", explain the humour in that to me. Even the movies, I was ****** to endure the holy grail and once again was left wondering what i had just watched.

I guess it depends on your type of humour, id like to think I have a broad range, spoof probably being one of my favourites.

American shows are rarely funny to me. I liked "Friends" and "Married with ********". "King of Queens" is ok, but a lot of them ("Ellen"/"Seinfeld"/"Will & Grace") are just non-laughs for me. Yea, Europeans do have a different Type of Humour...
