Re the board search, notwithstanding the caveat that you folks are possibly working on this bit (not sure if you're working on the board search or main search currently), I got frustrated enough with it the other day that I just aimed the google gun at it,
"site:
www.freeones.com searchterm1 searchterm2 etc"
And it worked a charm. Obviously if y'all are five minutes from deploying your own solution then disregard this, but maybe you could just deploy google search for the board?
IDK if there's a big charge for it tho. Indexxx uses it but for some reason it works like crap on their site!
Not 5 minutes away from deploying a solution, but hopefully will have the advanced search plugin installed next week. We thought it would be an easy plugin to install but nothing about the way FreeOnes is set up (including the board) is plug and play. The dev is having trouble with the configuration and we have had to push it a bit down the list until the right people are available to help.
Knock on wood, but I'm hoping we can figure it out next week.
That's probably not going to work on anything new. I don't know how often Google indexes FreeOnes. Petra might know.
Google works in mysterious ways. Nobody knows how often google indexes any site, it's all best guesses.
We can see from our analytics that it's slowly reindexing everything, including the board (xenforo is actually set up to be google friendly where vbulletin wasn't crawled very well) but it's a slow process. Probably be another 2 months before everything is re-indexed and then how often google returns to a site really depends on a lot of factors and nobody knows how much weight each thing gets. We do know it matters how much new content the site gets, how much someone googles something about the site, how many times people click on a link to the site from google results, etc.
A funny story is there's this babe. She was a nobody playboy model in the 90s and starred in 2 Troma films. I think we had maybe 5 links in her babe section and she flipped the fuck out (as playboy models tend to do as they use their real names) and sent us a cease and desist. She even got Troma to send us a DMCA since the profile image we used was a still for the film. After I got to fan girl all over the Troma rep, I deleted the links and her section. Done, right?
Nope, this idiot kept searching her name + FreeOnes in google. This kept telling google that there was something interesting there since she did it a lot and they never de-indexed the page. Plus she'd go and put her name in the freeones search and get {babe-name}: 0 results and then see {firstname}+{lastname} in the search string.
This is how search engines work. But she was too stupid to understand this and she kept doing things that google just found interesting.
I had to explain to her if you put "bugs bunny" in the search you'd see Bugs Bunny: 0 results and the name in the search string. This is kind of like a mirror. If you don't want to see yourself, don't look. If you don't want to see your name on FreeOnes, stop fucking searching.
To this day, 10 years later, her name is still in google connected with freeones (even though we blocked google from even looking for her) because she won't fucking let it go. She still sends love letters to our host and domain registar from time to time trying to get them to close freeones down over it.
Her name still makes me twitch, but at least I got a cool Troma tshirt out of it.
