A question about the Police where you live?

Here in Scotland the Police are not very well mannered. They do not speak to you in a polite manner. It's not like the five O we see in the Hollywood movies where they are like "Sir" or "Mam" and "please sir" or what ever it is. I would faint if I heard a police officer here in the UK speak like that!.

See if they wanted your attention here (where I live) it would be like "Hey you" or something like "Haw!" which is the Scottish version of "hey you" lol. It most definitely is not "Excuse me, sir." or something along that line of manners. Nope. Not the police here. They would set about your head with a batton before conforming to polite manners.

So the question is what are the coppers like where you live? are they are polite when talking to you like they are in the movies or are they of little manners as well where you are?.

I've no idea what the police are like elsewhere in the UK, I speak only for the Scottish forces, so please enlighten me as to what they are like elsewhere in the UK as well please. You get the vibe that when they are around it should command respect. Well it needs to be given before it can be received.

The police here are pretty good and polite most of the time, it's a small town so there's only a few that work here and not much happens. Although that's probably why there good and polite because they've got nothing better to do and are probably just lonely.

Depends...I've dealt with both. Sometimes you get a cop, that shouldn't be...he made it through all of the testing, and got on the force, and let it go to his head...now he treats everyone like an asshole, because he thinks he's better then they are, or somehow above the law. Some are the nicest guys in the world...I personally know 2 individuals, that I have tremendous respect for, and would even if they didn't wear a badge. They treat others as they would like to be treated, and they appreciate the respect when you give it to them...they let you know when you don't, and if they do, you deserved it. Even the the most level headed, respectful law enforcement officer has his moments, they're only human, and if you push their buttons, you get what you asked for.

I'll say this, I wouldn't wanna do it for a living....how much money, is enough to get, to be shot at, and treated like crap, for trying to help people, and preserve the public good...no thanks.

depends, but most of the officers and deputies out here are very courteous and will address you as "sir" or "ma'am".

Havent really had anything to do with the police here in Holland, but back home I used to call them up and have them drive me home when I couldnt find a taxi... could have something to do with me working for the company that serviced their cars though....

Anyways, they were really friendly.

Other than the occasional "good morning," I've never actually communicated with an on duty police officer in any formal sense.

In my City the new cops are very rude but they do have nice which would be the old timers as the new ones come from small towns

Here, iin my part of town, they are really professional, and courteous, mostly.

Maybe it's because I use to call them pretty regularily, as I live in a house with druggies and small crooks :dunno:

The RCMP are usually very courteous except for when you show attitude towards them. I have seen the cops in my City take a very condensending and sarcastic tone to drunk people at check stops, for example.

Then again, they like to take aboriginals twenty kilometres out of town in the middle of winter and just leave them there.
