99% of modern sports cars, any cars, can kiss my....

Guys, I must be totally brainwashed. All of your talk of smaller cars is interesting and you all make a lot of good points. I guess I'm just a throwback, because I love bigger cars. Not really for the luxury as mentioned, but I like the idea that I could run someone off the road if I have to or just the feeling of barrelling down the road. I love the rumble of the engine and just the feeling of the massive momentum you are carrying down the road. If I had a smaller car, I could undoubtedly take the turns the way I do now and not need tires so often. It's just not for me though. Whenever I drive or ride in a small car, I just feel so unsafe, regardless of what common sense tells me. The better acceleration, handling and stopping in most smaller cars would likely help me avoid accidents in some cases, but I just can't get over how I feel. Now to take my argument to a logical conclusion, I should favor SUVs. But I don't, those just don't appeal to me. Pickups yes, but not SUVs. It bothers me that I like larger cars so much because I'm not the type to be hard-headed in the face of overwhelming contradictory evidence. But there I am....:dunno:

Well, he's talking about light and quick. CRX fit that, as well as a lot of the popular Brit cars, Fiats, Alfa Romeos, BMWs, etc. Lotus of course I mentioned.

I love my Sportster. Hell of quick off the line, top speed fast enough to scare the shit out of you, great mileage. Sure, it's a 'girl's' bike, but just like a girl, it's a lot of fun to ride! Fun, fun, fun!!!

Both my wife and I have MINI Cooper S. Her is a cabrio and I have the hardtop. Love my MINI, but there is something great about a rumbling V8.

Look at the Elise, that's an amazing car and light weight. Super cars though, hands down would be a Ferrari.

Well what helped provoke this was my recent car shopping. I was not impressed at all by the bloated whale that the 5 series has become. The first car I ever drove was a 528 way back in the mid eighties... I later owned two new 5s, one of them an M and am looking to replace one of my current rides.

I just wanted something that wasn't so obvious - something that was made for someone that doesn't need the car to tell him that he's a bigshot, a captain, an asshole.

I wanted something tough to drive, something that takes a long time to master, if you can at all. Now, this damn car, like everything else in it's category and in all but the most pedestrian cars, has so many limiters, so much electronic bullshit, that it's just boring to drive.

I did go this afternoon and drove an Exige S. Except for the dreadfully embarrassing paint job, it was perfect. It may just fill the bill, but I still need a combi/wagon for day to day..... and those 5s, even the M that I drove last week, lacks a soul.

Let's hope you're not disrespecting my Maybach 62S (62 inches long). It's more than 3000 pounds, and you better believe it will beat that tiny toy car of yours. The 62S (V12, more than 500 horsepower) will floor just about any sports car, and this is usually at twice the weight. Not only that, it provides not only a faster car, it provides a far better driving experience.

Whatever you do, don't disrespect Maybach (respect goes out to those who own the 57 too, S or no S).

PS: "S" stands for "special" and the model number describes the length of the car in inches.

That fat, bloated, giant tub of a car? That apparently costs not miles away from 1/2 a million dollars?

I'd take a Z06 'Vette at 1/4 the price and blow the doors off that thing you own and still have enough money left to buy a Cadillac Escalade for the winter and give the rest to African AIDS babies so I can help keep 50 or so from dieing a slow painful death.

I respect very much that you can buy a car like that. I don't respect it or your automotive taste that you did buy a car like that.

ROFL to that 'extreme stripped down' car I agree with the sentiments of

-no true car is a crossover of anything
-theres no substitute for rear wheel drive
-N/A engines kick ass, turbo's get the job done but its like losing your soul!

I'm a massive fan of Australian Holdens, HSV's. whilst not being purely sportscar, they probably come closest to; at a wicked budget!

here is a pic of the new model:

Ahhh yes, the 6ltr fuel injected V8....... there is no replacement for cubic displacement!!!

HSV's are abslolute balltearers, but I would settle for the VE SS:thumbsup:

i LOVE Vettes! The C2's for their styling (owned a 64 stingray for a few years)
American built, lots of muscle, just as much as the European exotics and for a fraction of the cost!

Leave it to my old friend saint to kick my ass. (Where have you been?)

I said that I was shopping, I didn't say "buying"! ;)

Ah, the Maybach, the Edsel of our generation. They can barely give that car away. And, it is in fact, a perfect, perfect example of what is wrong with cars today - a car spec'd and made for the marketing department. (And we all know the marketing departments know the least about trends and engineering no matter what the product/industry!)

What I'm on about, I think, is that I wish that the list of true performance options was longer and full of real things, like differentials, ratios, weight savings options and strike outs - instead of "performance aluminum dashboard inlays" or "sport leather steering wheel". I understand that these cars are mainly bought by bankers and such who need to justify their 70+ hours a week, but some of us couldn't give a (whatever) and want to drive while we still can. And even the cars in other categories suffer from the same terminal goal of being pimp'd and not performenc'd. "Sport dual exhaust", "18" performance wheels with low profile tires" (on a 4 cyl...).... "high performance painted brake calipers" :wtf:

ah yes, the poor man's vette. . . i mean the camaro!

The camaro hasn't been good since 1969 and the vette was pretty much done by 1971. I have never liked any of the newer corvettes. If they didn't allow me to turn around and sell it I wouldn't even take one for free. Not only are their performance disappointing (and overrated) for the price, but every since the fifth generation ones have come out they look like a glorified Mazda. So basically they have nothing anymore besides a hefty price tag and a name. The old muscle car era cameros were better than the corvettes unless people liked wasting money.

My daddy( the only time a man can call his father daddy is when you are talking something distinctly masculine, like cars, drinking straight whiskey
or guns. Man Law #624) blessed with the knowledge on how to build a car in your garage. While I don't drive my American Steel everyday, I do have it and love it immensely. I'm a typical American with my past vehicle choices, but I'll always lean toward Detroit Muscle.
BTW I've been running round the net, exploring. I was studying for my MCSE
for awhile, got bored when Vista came out, and stumbled into a personal training cert. I've always been around though, lurking in the shadows, checking up on my friends, looking at the ppl we were calling newbs rise to power on the board. Never went anywhere though. I'll always be here. Shit, Freeones was my 1st exposure to net porn( i know. but i have MORE than made up for it.)
