Latinos 'millenials' ante la elección entre Hillary Clinton o Donald Trump

El ambiente político se siente cada vez más denso para un creciente grupo de jóvenes latinos.

A pocos días de las elecciones presidenciales del 8 de noviembre, en una pizzería de Corona Plaza en Nueva York, Omar Cortez, un joven de padres mexicanos, dice que aún no sabe por quién va a votar. Para Cortez, la próxima semana no solamente significa la llegada de unos de los días que podría cambiar la historia de Los Estados Unidos, pero también significa la llegada de sus 21 años de edad y la primera vez en la que ejercerá su voto.

“Hubo un tiempo que no me daban ganas de votar,” dijo Cortez, con su español quebrantado. “Pero un anciano que conozco me dijo que si tu no vas a votar, no te puedes quejar de los próximos 4 años.”

Así como Cortez, muchos jóvenes latinos estarán votando por primera vez en estas elecciones. Una gran cantidad de estos jóvenes son parte de la última tanda de la generación conocida como los “millenials.” Y aunque no existe una edad oficial en esta generación, generalmente abarca las personas nacidas entre los años 1980 y 2000.

De acuerdo a estudios del Instituto de Investigación de Pew, “Los millenials abarcan el 44% de los Latinos elegibles para votar.” Este porcentaje representa casi la mitad de los proyectados 27.3 millones de Latinos elegibles para votar en estas elecciones.

Part of me wants Trump to win, but the liberal in me wants HillBill to win.
If I believed Trump was sincere, and if he wasn't a con artist, I would want him to win.
Trump is making empty promises only saying what people want to hear.
