persona non grata
On the womens side...Pretty much all blowouts again, not much to see there. Where's something like Kuznetsova/Schiavone from last year, at least something competitive. Greta Arn over Cibulkova from the second round was probably the best (Go Greta!) but she is stuck with Serena next round.
Wozniacki - Jankovic in the next round could be...interesting. I saw a match between them last year, and it was one of the strangest matches i have seen in a long time. Neither of them wanted to be the attacking player, so they ended up playing no pace moonballs at each other most of the time. It was like watching a women´s clay court match from the mid 80´s.

All kinds of shit to write about, eh?

I'm too fucked up to be writing about the games but I am watching them right now!

I wish Tomic had a weapon against Feds

Tomic was going alright in the first set then Fed turned it up and finished it in straights 6-4 6-2 6-2.
He has Del Potro in the next round, should be interesting!

Berdych and Almagro caused the drama though with Berd winning a tight match but opting for the no-handshake after Nico hit in the arm earlier on.
Strong booing from the crowd, could hardly have a post-match interview.
Didn't seem intential though, Almagro apologised afterwards. Most people would say it's part of the game anyway.
Berdych is 6' 5" and 200 lb, but getting a shot in the arm with a tennis ball is too much? Lucky he didn't play against Lendl lol.

Berdych has Nadal next who he has a poor record against, going to be tough for him.

Tough match on the women's side too, Li vs. Clijsters.
Li had 4 match points being up 6-2 in the second set tiebreak but lost 6 points in row to lose the set, ouch! Clijsters got the next set and that was it, but she could be carrying an ankle injury.

(Annoying annotations on those videos but you can turn them off)

Next match against Caroline Wozniacki (WTA-1). She said on Belgian television she's not too worried (yet) of the ankle injury.
More quotes from the interview: "This was my most spectaclar come back ever (after the four match balls from Na Li)", "I can't believe I won, I knew this was going to be a tough match, physically and mentally, but this I never expected" and "This is my last time at the Australian Open and so I never thought about giving up (even with the injury). I kept on fighting for every point. I want to thank everybody for the encouragements."

Last quote proves Clijsters (for all who know her mentality) certainly is not going to give up and will keep on fighting untill the last battle is fought. Next round will be the hardest challenge for her in the tournament. If she can beat Caroline Wozniacki, I think she might win the Australian open again. I hope she makes it.

knows petras secret: she farted.
i dont have tv anymore so now im missing all the matches. and all the basketball.

but in passing, i have yet to be impressed with Caroline Wozniacki. shes got the rank but i havent seen her really do all that great. maybe im catching bad matches. that loss a few months or so to serena was just terrible.

Novak Djokovic against Lleyton Hewitt was a good game ( 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 ), but for me tha best match today was Maria Sharapova against Sabine Lisicki ( 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 ).
The shock of day in the men's draw was the defeat of Tsonga in 5 sets to Nishikori ( 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 ) and in the women's draw besides the lose of Serena Williams to Katerina Makarova ( 6-2, 6-3 ), I become really surprise with the victory of Sara Errani against Jie Zheng ( 6-2, 6-1 ).
In the other matches the favorites have pretty easy wins.

Petra Kvitova against Ana Ivanovic 6-2, 7-6.
David Ferrer against Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.
Andy Murray against Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1, 6-1, 1-0.

Finally I have to say that a love the thrilling win of Kim Clijsters yesterday.
And If Clijsters recovery well of her injury, tomorrow Caroline Wozniacki don't have any chance, it's gonna be smashed by Kim.

I'm a supporter or Clijsters as well, but don't be too sure about her beating Caroline Wozniacki tomorow. After all, she's still WTA-1. Clijsters today had some training, for the ones interested and it all went well with her injury.

Here's a translation of what was said on the sports news today in Belgium about Kim:
Kim ready for Wozniacki
Kim will be able to combat Wozniacki in the quarter finale of the Australian Open. The ankle injury she sustained in her party Sunday against the Chinese Na Li is under control, so says her physiotherapist Sam Verslegers.
"Her ankle injury is not too bad. The ankle is slightly swollen. 48 hours after the straining the swelling is on it's maximum. So the question is how the ankle will look Tuesday morning. Lett's wait and see but I think it will be okay to play. Kim will not 100%, but they will be 100% committed. We get a match."

Also the neck pain that Clijsters played tricks on the last few days, will not prevent her to act against Caroline Wozniacki. "She is not without pain on the court but we have everything under control," said Verslegers to Sporza.(Sporza is the national Belgian Sports New agency)

Wasn't really surprised that Woz lost against Clijsters, with her defensive game she has to rely on the opponent playing bad when she is up against the real elite women in slams. Also she can lose if a lesser ballbasher is running hot like Cibulkova last year.
Not sure what the numbers are but I think there is a good chance she will finally drop from #1 after the tournament finishes.
Quite a few of the remaining players looking good.

Fed beating up on Del Potro at the moment.

Federer beat Del Potro 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.
Easy victory for Federer, Del Potro only fight back in the first set.

Victoria Azarenka win in 3 sets against Agnieszka Radwanska 6-7, 6-0, 6-2.

And Kim Clijsters win another match against Caroline Wozniacki in 2 easy sets 6-3, 7-6.
Just for curiosity the head to head, is 5-0 for Kim Clijsters, and Wozniacki only win a set in 5 matches.

Now for finish this day we have Rafael Nadal against Tomas Berdych.

I think we'll see her in the finals now...

To gain a place in the Australian Open finale Clijsters has to beat the White Russian Victoria Azarenka (WTA-3) In the semi-finals. Azarenka beated the Polish Agnieszka Radwanska (WTA-8) in three sets 6-7 6-0 en 6-2.

In the mutual confrontations with Azarenka Clijsters leads with 4-2. The 22-year-old White-Russin won the last game. End March of last year she defeated Clijsters in the quarter-finals in Miami with 6-3 6-3. Clijsters had earlier in 2011 an easy in the quarter-finals in Sydney against Azarenka with 6-3 6-2.

The day session in the Australian Open is finish for today, and all the favourites have easy wins in straight sets.

Andy Murray beat Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-1

Petra Kvitova beat Sara Errani 6-4, 6-4

Maria Sharapova beat Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-3

Now in the night session we have one match left, Novak Djokovic against David Ferrer.
