2012 Tennis Thread

The WTA is going to address it, I understand. From what I have gathered the "Veterans" are going to have some sort of leeway on the shrieking but they are going to stress to younger players that that shit is unacceptable, so it will be a step in the right direction.

I really hope they can enforce some sort of rule here, because the women's game has really improved and it could be great fun to watch. Well, let's see what happens then.

Victoria Azarenka crushed Maria Sharapova 6-3 6-0 to claim her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and also secure the world number one ranking.

Congrats to Azarenka, she played much better than Sharapova and deserve the victory.
And I have to say, finally Caroline Wozniack is out of number 1 spot and I think she drops for number 4 in WTA Rankings.

Stepanek and Paes stun Bryans to doubles title
Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek upset Bob and Mike Bryan 7-6 6-2 to win the Australian Open doubles title and foil the American twins' bid for a record 12th Grand Slam crown.

I guess this year the Australian Open is not a good one for the USA players.

hehe.....

BMS wins the mixed doubles title. Awesome to see a girl from my home state win the title. Was good. Wish she was available but she has been married to a college football player for a while. Oh well, still cool.

I'd splack Bethany today right now if she would. Best wishes, girl. Don't forget Rochester!

3rd set Djokovic, 6-2
Seems like Nadal is getting tired. Strange though he had 48 hours to recover after his game against Federer and Novak only had 24 hours to recover after his victory against Murray...

Fouth set: 88 minutes: tie break, Nadal wins 7-5
2-2 overall (5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7): we've got ourselves a new thriller.
Match is 4 hours and 20 minutes long now.

1.20 am here in Australia
Longest match in Aust open history...and STILL goin :eek:

5-5 5th set

Match over, Djokovich wins 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 7-5

An incredible thriller, in the longest match ever in the Australian open.
One of the best tennis games I've ever seen!!!
People who didn't see the match have missed something.
Match was over 5 hours and 30 minutes long.

Die For Me
Crushing match, how did they not die on court.
Novak gets AO number 3, brave effort from Nadal and that's an understatement.
No words!
