Congrats to the Canadian Women's soccer team on a bronze medal!! :bowdown: :bowdown: I still think they should have made the gold / silver match but they just barely snuck that bronze out over France at the 90 minute mark. Hatsoff to the French ladies as well! :hatsoff:

...So Bolt wins the 200m. Surprise, surprise...He'll probably take all the headlines again (over here in the U.K. at least).

Despite the fact that he didn't break any records (neither world or olympic).

Another athlete David Rudisha wins the 800m in WORD RECORD time...would he make the headlines? Of course not.

The 100m or 200m is no more difficult than any other of the track and field events (in fact any Olympic event for that matter)...so why does he get all the headlines?

It is. And, having done a little diving, I can tell you it is bloody amazing that shit doesn't happen more often. Correct exit from rotation is very hard.

Bolt is more marketable, but still...isn't the Olympics about skill and performance? This guy broke a WORLD RECORD and is the best at his event.

Bolt degree of performance is still relatively higher than the other person's. Bolt only didn't break the record because he's just been competing with himself and only himself for years after he pretty much shattered the record before that was out of line with predicted degrees of humans to even be able to do at this point. It would otherwise be punishing him for his previous success. Look at it this way. If none of Bolt's previous runs ever happened until these ones what would people think about these races?
