Well at least Willie will be keeping his job this weekend.
As you can imagine, the coverage of that particular situation is about all the coverage the Mets have been getting. They ran a nice article in the local NJ paper (The Star-Ledger) about possible candidates for Willie's job. I can't seem to find it online, but some of the candidates mentioned were Larry Bowa, Bobby Valentine and bench coach Jerry Manuel. I say unless they can get Bobby V back from Japan, just leave Willie in place.
I'm one of the few that do not believe Willie is the problem. I'll admit, sometimes when a team looks good on paper and they wind up underachieving, it is the manager's fault. I think here the problem has been a combination of injuries and players being past their prime. Delgado and Beltran are not the players they used to be, and injuries to Alou, Church, Castro, Pedro and El Duque to name a few have hampered the team.
At the same time, they have not been altogether horrible, like the media would have you believe. They're right now a .500 club, and there is still plenty of time to turn things around.
