15 yo kills 9 yo because she wanted to know what it was like.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Blessed with a Friday off school, 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante dug two holes in the ground to be used as a grave, authorities said. For the next week, she attended classes, all the while plotting the right time for a murder, they said.

That time arrived the evening of Oct. 21, when Bustamante strangled 9-year-old neighbor Elizabeth Olten without provocation, cut the girl's throat and stabbed her, prosecutors said. Why?

"Ultimately, she stated she wanted to know what it felt like," Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Rice testified Wednesday during a court hearing over the slaying.

This is the world. It is evil, twisted and corrupt (rotten).

Move along.

I feel badly for the girl, she didn't deserve to die. That was stupid of her, she wanted to know what it felt like ? Just stupid, knowing you would have gotten caught anyway, and going to jail.

Spending in jail for the rest of your life. People are so crazy, don't intend to think very well. You will have consequences later for your actions. This is a lesson, never do anything stupid/crazy, just because you want to know how it feels. Too damn dumb!

Someone so young wanting to know what it felt like? This just sounds like she was a murderer or even a serial killer in the making. I think a lot of killers have given that excuse and either they stop there or they become addicted to it. If she wasn't going to do it at 15, it was just going to keep boiling inside of her so somebody was going to die at her hands eventually.

Call it a cynical hunch, but I've got a feeling she won't be spending the rest of her life in jail,or even prison for that matter.

The fact that she dug the graves beforehand could change that. It shows complete premeditation so there goes any insanity defense. The fact that she says she just wanted to see what it was like doesn't help her case either but I'm sure her attorneys will have that changed though saying something like, "the police intimidated her to confess" and then she will plead not guilty or whatever. But she could spend the rest of her life in jail; it seems like more and more juveniles are being tried as adults these days. I don't see Missouri being any different

Premeditation doesn't matter...or may not. Many states cannot give a life sentence to a minor and the US Supreme Court will be taking the issue up soon. Some argue that giving a life sentence to a minor violates the Constitution as Cruel and Unusual Punishment, so the SCotUS will be hearing a case of a 13 year old given life without parole. If they rule it is Cruel and Unusual, no minor can get life in any state.

Anyway, this is nothing new. The Leopold and Loeb case was back in 1924. There will always be fucked up human beings.

the only difference is she's female. just like the double standard for rape I suspect she'll preferential treatment as well because of her sex.

... and there's only "O"ne man that can save u.s. :ban:

:1orglaugh

and hopefully that "O"ne man will not be sitting in a certain *ahem* House...around 2012. :)

I am pretty sure she is going to be tried as an adult.

Wow, it seems more and more crazy things are happening every day in this world. Surely you would know what it feels like to kill someone without actually doing it? HORRIBLE thats how it would feel!

She should go to jail, I don't see why not.

should and will are different nichelle.
she go somewhere, maybe jail, maybe a mental hospital, juvie before jail.
tried as an adult she'll probably get 25, be out in 10 maybe 15.
As a juvi , it varies depending on the judge, the prosecuter and the familys of both victim and killer, but probably be out in less than 10.
one the for sure, the justice system in the US is not very consistent.

I should have clarified, this is what I meant."Life" from a legal standpoint is different from "life" as we all typically refer to it.

Put it this way:even if she's tried as an adult,I seriously doubt she'll die there, unless something out of the ordinary were to happen.
