The Oscars are far from perfect, but compared to other award shows they do a decent job of rewarding less commercial projects. If there's another big award show that panders less to the mainstream than the Oscars please let me know. :)

I didn't watch the inauguration ceremonies, but I did see the 2001 ceremonies. The Longhorns were part of that one too, and Bush gave them the traditional salute as he's doing in this photo. I remember it clearly because I didn't know what it meant either until the TV commentator explained it.
