All Things Motorsport

Making this thread a little later then I wanted to, having already missed Dakar, the Daytona 24 and the start of the WRC season. However, the Bathurst 12 Hour competition takes place this weekend...

American Muscle and German Engineering, that was the philosophy of Bavarian Lamborghini specialist Reiter Engineering when it created its SaReNi division to develop a GT3-version of the Chevrolet Camaro. The American *****, which sports a massive 7.9 litre V8 engine, has been thoroughly tested by the team’s regular squad of drivers: Peter Kox, Tomas Enge, Albert von Thurn und Taxis and Stefan Rosina. General Motors works driver Oliver Gavin also had a go in the machine, to further advance its competitiveness.

Sorry about that, the answer indeed is yes.
That's alright. Here in Australia, I'd say the B12h is now the biggest race in the local scene. It may not have the commercial/mainstream clout of the Bathurst 1000/V8 Supercars. However, amongst hardened fans, it has become the favoured event. By it's nature, it is in effect an old 1000. Which is why I think it has become popular. Whereas nowadays, the 1000 has become a longer sprint race.

Austin Dillon takes pole for the Daytona 500; Dillon and Truex on the front row. Dillon and Truex will start on the pole for the two Budweiser Duel qualifying races on Thursday. Those races will determine the rest of the field and the starting lineup for the Daytona 500. Last year's 500 winner and 2013 champion Jimmie Johnson will start 14th. Denny Hamlin, who won the Sprint Unlimited, was 22nd. Danica Patrick was in front last year, but was 25th this year and will start from the back after an engine change.

World Champion Marc Marquez will be unable to ride at next week’s second 2014 MotoGP™ test session at Sepang, having broken his right fibula during a dirt track training session in Spain on Wednesday afternoon.

After carrying out a CT scan and x-ray, Dr. Mir explained:
"The results showed no ligament damage or dislocation and no need to proceed with surgery. I expect he will need three to four weeks to fully recover."

Marquez has already started rehabilitation with magnetic therapy. He will remain non-weight bearing for two weeks, meaning he will certainly miss next week’s Sepang test and possibly the following week in Phillip Island, Australia. Full recovery is expected for the season-opening Qatar MotoGP™ race on 23 March.

Matt Kenseth wins the first Budweiser Dual race; Denny Hamlin won the 2nd. However, a crash at the end of the second race involving Jimmie Johnson, Jamie McMurray, Michael Waltrip, Martin Truex, Clint Bowyer and David Ragan means those drivers will have to go to their backup cars and start from the back.

Lotus has recruited ex-Caterham racer Charles Pic as its 2014 'number three' and promoted Marco Sorensen to a 'reserve and development' role.

Sébastien Bourdais and Action Express Racing picked up right where they left off after winning the Rolex 24 At Daytona by setting the fastest lap Thursday on the opening day of TUDOR United SportsCar Championship testing at Sebring International Raceway.

Bourdais drove the No. 5 Corvette DP around Sebring’s historic 3.74-mile road course in 1:52.480 (119.701 mph), topping Gustavo Yacaman’s No. 42 OAK Racing Morgan/Nissan by 0.724 seconds in the final minutes of the afternoon session. Tom Kimber-Smith drove the No. 25 8Star Motorsports ORECA FLM09 to the top spot in the morning session with a lap of 1:55.940 (116.129 mph). That time held up for the remainder of the day over the pair of BAR1 Motorsports entries.

Porsche North America carried momentum from its GT Le Mans (GTLM) class victory in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona to Sebring International Raceway on Thursday, posting the two fastest times on the opening day of a two-day TUDOR United SportsCar Championship test. Joerg Bergmeister ran the fastest lap of the day in the morning session at 2:00.048 (112.155 mph) in the team’s No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR. Jacques Villeneuve is back! He will drive a third car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports at the Indy 500.

That's good for JV. Hopefully, he can rebuild his reputation a bit. Maybe even challenge for the win? He's the last winner of a "real" 500, in my book. On another note, because TheAdmiral's post reminded me of the Motogp testing at Phillip Island, I think I'll head out there and take a peek. It's not a public event, but there's still decent viewing of the circuit from outside. Pretty much from Siberia to the last corner.

That'll be two trips to PI for me in a week. On March 7-9, there's a big Historic meeting there, which is one of my favourite race meetings down here. It's similar to what the US has at Laguna Seca and England with Silverstone.
