The Greatest Sports Teams Of All Time

'71 - '74 Miami Dolphins

I agree maybe I'm a bit of a homer but those are some damn good teams.

You don't have to a homer to understand if your basketball team has the best regular season record EVER, has the best player EVER, and finished that season with the title, that team belongs on the GOAT list, PERIOD.

End of story.

The 1985 Chicago Bears had what most NFL consider the greatest defense of all-time, and they also finished with the title that year by whole-level slaughtering the Pats in the worst SB defeat EVER.

To make a long story short, Forbes needs to stick with financial material.

Penske Racing Team of course

And the 49ers during the Debartolo ownership years

Should specify Eddie Debartolo era, because his ****** & ******* in law can't run the team right.

Also Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren & Williams different eras in F1, and Childress/Earnhardt & Hendrick/Gordon/Johnson eras in Nascar Cup.

The 1975 Reds the greatest baseball team of all time?
Obviously. A win for that part of it, at least.

If Jim Rice doesn't get hurt in the last week of the season, the Reds don't beat the Red Sox in the series. Fred Lynn was a rookie, but so was Rice. Losing Rice for the playoffs hurt just enough

For what its worth, I'll throw in the '76 US Olympic Boxing team. Seven medals (including five golds), and all but two won professional titles

''Have the Globetrotters ever lost a game?

Yes. In fact, the Globetrotters have lost 345 games over the course of eight-plus decades. However, with over 23,000 wins, the Globetrotters do own the best winning percentage (.986) in the history of professional sports.

So there, Thread Closed!

1973-73 lakers wrer 69-13 and an nba records 33 game winning streak
1972 dolphins 17-0
1985 chicago bears 15-1 super bow champs.

The 1972 Dolphins faced one of the easiest schedules in the league ever, and almost lost a couple of games at that. I don't even know if I would put them in the top ten best NFL teams ever.

I would go

MLB - 1927 New York Yankees
NFL - 1985 Chicago Bears
NBA - 1995-96 Chicago Bulls
NHL - 1983-84 Edmonton Oilers

For multi-year teams that had the same core players and had great peaks of performance I would go with

MLB - late 20's early 30's Yankees.

NFL- This is a hard one but I would put the 80s San Francisco 49ers over the best Steeler and Raider teams of the 60s and 70s. I could see a case being made for the Steers though. The cowboys are a little back and despite the multiple Superbowl wins the recent Patriot teams just don't measure up in a historic way. Besides one year (that they lost) they were never super dominate and a lot of their wins were done by the skin of their teeth.

NBA - Another tough one but I would put the Lakers of the late seventies and the 80s here above some of the good Celtics teams. The Bill Russell Celtics didn't have much competition outside of when playing against Chamberlain.

NHL - The early 80s Edmonton Oilers.

Best teams over the course of the sport

MLB - Yankees*
NFL - Close but I pick the Steelers.
NBA - It’s close but I just give the nod to the Lakers over the Celtics
NHL - This one isn’t that easy either. Maybe it’s the homer in me, and maybe it’s because a lot of the teams that were good decades ago haven’t been great in a long time but I would have to give it to the Detroit Red Wings who have won a lot and have are rarely bad or even go down to just average.

* The Yankees have had a huge unfair monetary advantage for almost a century now and have practically bought a good number of their wins over the years.

What about Manchester United 1999, Real Madrid 2000 or Inter Milan 2010.

One thing : Bayern 76 had 3 "Ballon d'Or" in their squad : Beckenbauer, Muller, Rummenigge.
AC Milan 90 had 2 : Rijkaard and Gullit
Barcelona 09 had 1 : Messi.
And they won an amazing score of 6 trophies within one year : Liga, Copa del Rey, Champion's League, Club's World Cup, UEFA Supercup, Spanish Supercup. They just won ALL competitions they were in

The Lakers and Celtics of the 80's would destroy the 72 win Bulls. They may have the best record ever, with the greatest player ever, but that isn't the greatest NBA team ever. Sorry to burst your bubble Chicago homers. There is a reason they didn't win until Magic and Bird were done.

Racism claims yet another victim. :(

At least they had the 01-02 team.
That was a great team.

There is a reason they didn't win until Magic and Bird were done.

You mean because they were forming as a team, developing their players, getting better, getting the final pieces of the puzzle into place, and gaining experience at the time so they could be great later on. You can't compare that Bulls team then to when they were at their peak. At the Bulls peak I would say that they compare up nicely with those teams. The Bulls never had a great center, but besides that they might great depth on the team besides their star players that most people forget about.

I refuse to read that list until they put it on one page. This trend with lists is really ******* me off.

The two best teams I can think of were both Olympic teams.

USA Basketball - ***** Team 1: The greatest assembly of talent I've ever seen on a basketball court. They absolutely destroyed their competition and hardly had to break a sweat to do it.

Russian Red Army Hockey Team: The team that lost to our **** in the 1980 Olympics were as good as any hockey team that ever played. I'd put them up against any NHL team on the list and feel pretty good about their chances.
