Drawn half a millennium ago and then swiftly forgotten, one map made us see the world as we know it today... and helped name America. But, as Toby Lester has discovered, the most powerful nation on earth also owes its name to a pun.

Lots of us do not eat spaghetti anways. Plus I perfer Penne over any other pasta and make my own sauce from scratch.

Concerning the article:
Sad to see a prime example once again of how most of the world likes to forget that there were and are other things "Made in Germany" besides Nationalsocialism. Yeah, it's true, not only Sauerkraut, Weißwurst und Lederhosen. Sorry. As interesting as the article may be, it brings no new knowledge to me. The map by Waldseemüller and the origin of the word "America" are well-known amongst most Germans who have a decent education. Why this is presented now in the (to me foreign) media as a new interesting piece of information bewilders me.

I did not know who drew the map, but I did know that America was named after Americo.
