One very simple fix would be to allow that free tiny url shortening site, you know the one, tiny*rl.com, at least for the current emergency. However, since it was previously b a n n e d, there are probably good reasons to do so.
That would be a really bad idea. Un-bann-ing it (even temporarily) would undo all the previously ban-ned links which may contain all sorts of il-legal material, and by un-bann-ing it, it could cause any number of legal issues, which Freeones doesn't need at this already mightmarish time.
Personally, I would prefer zero-tolerance on
all URL shorteners.
Ask yourself, why do we need URL shorteners? Cutting and pasting is so easy. I've always found it suspicious when people use them. It's like they're trying to hide something.
I also feel the same about text-linking, but that's a battle that could only be won by re-writing the board software, and that's not gonna happen.
