Which one is your favorite president?
TR. I’m a Long Islander, so I’m sure that plays a part.
He walked the line in between Liberals and Conservatives. He was both. He reigned in business, but as Doris Kearny’s Goodwin points out, he wasn’t against business, he felt the government should have more power and control over them. She describes his actions as releasing steam before the pot boiled over.
Comparing contemporary mores is no light thing and while some point to his interactions with Booker T Washington as progress towards equality, he did not believe completely in equality. If over simplified, I think he might be considered a racist today.
He was a nationalist. He was a ***** and did what he believed in.
I also respect Adams(2 and 5, but I mean 2). Not a great executive, but he was a ***** in founding the country. He surrendered his presidency to keep us out of war and I admire that. I think Bush (41) did the same. Surrendered his presidency to do the right think economically. He deserves some create for the economy under Clinton. I think Clinton understood the priorities of economics and knew when not to push, which is brilliant and showed self-controll.
I guess that that was more than you asked for and only the first two letters were needed. Pardon my rambling.
