Firefox 2.0 - Damn it's fast

use the option firefox and the firetune extension it makes it faster. IE7 had a security loophole the first day when it was released so stick with firefox.

looks and works fantastic...:hatsoff: to the Mozilla team!

I can't find a "firetune" extension.

One thing I don't like is that if you open a new window, "ctrl-N" it opens in the homepage, and doesn't duplicate the current window. Sometimes I like a duplicate, so when clicking on a new link, if it uses an existing page, I still have a copy of my work in the duplicated page.

go to "tools", then go to "tabs", and it will give you the option if you want to open with new windows or new tabs.

Waiting on PrefBar ...

I'm waiting on PrefBar to be released for 2.0 before I move. Or I might just write my own little Extension of just the few things I need (and not everything it does).

But at work, I've already switched. But I'm not hitting as many "problematic" Javascript sites there. ;)

AFA, here is the firetune site Premium Link Upgrade . In fact it is a plugin that makes it even faster even if you have set and installed fasterfox. Now I am using IE7 final version in French, it is faster and more secure than IE6. But clearly it is a rip off of Firefox with no possibility to customize it and no flashgot or downthemall extensions which makes me prefer Firefox by a large margin.

By the way...if anyone here is a Firefox expert...could you please private message me? I have some questions about the new version...

No, not what I'm saying, but here's an example;

If I'm writing a PM and want to go to another site to check a fact. I like to make a duplicate of the page I'm on, so if the browser hijacks an already open window instead of opening another, I will still have my PM in a backup window that I can return to.

Thanks, I went there and downloaded it.

I think it has an edge on I.E.7, but there are small things I don't like about either one of them.

I have a lot of little sounds with windows functions that I don't hear anymore. I did add in the "click" that from my sound file, sounds like a typewriter key from an add on.

I have thousands of sites in my favorites, and know how to zip then transfer the folder from PC to PC, but Firefox seems to want to do a lengthy conversion to another format?

I don't think I.E. 7 compares well, but was wondering about Netscape? In their day, they beat the pants off I.E., and provided a webpage maker that was far easier, and vastly superior to MS Frontpage.

Netspace and Mozilla and Gecko, oh my!

Firefox stores all of your bookmarks in a single, standards-based HTML file. There are Extensions to upload that HTML to a variety of sites and several services exist that cater to it.

What do you think Firefox is?
It's the browser portion of Mozilla, using the Gecko engine.

What is Mozilla?
That's Netscape! Mozilla 3 was Netscape 3. Mozilla 4 was Netscape 4.

What is Gecko?
It's the resulting, 100% standards-compliant engine used in all Mozilla 5+ developments.

Unfortunately, Netscape introduced some really stupid ideas, and most of their developers will be the first to admit that. They were also non-standards compliant themselves, hence the open source route with Gecko.

But yeah, it was pretty funny when a Microsoft exec was claiming they were "first" with the whole "graphical browser" idea. I mean Andresen, a Netscape co-founder, was one of the original Mosaic developers at the NCSA in Illinois. He looked like a real ass, especially when he wasn't aware that Internet Explorer wasn't developed in-house, but rebranded Spyglass Explorer for the first 2, and much of the 3 version.

Doh! That's Microsoft for you. Buy the 3rd best product and market the hell out of it, or just integrate it in the OS and developer libraries so everyone has to use it. Unfortunately for Microsoft, IE in the DOS/NT kernels turned out to be a total security disaster.

PrefBar 3.3.3 is out (works with Firefox 2.0) ...

PrefBar 3.3.3 came out last week and works with Firefox 2.0:
Premium Link Upgrade

It's the only safe way to surf IMHO because I can turn Javascript and other things on and off, enable Cookie Warnings, as well as feature-rich with User Agent (UA) spoofing, disable Send Referrer, etc... The new performance and features of Firefox 2.0 are well worth it. Especially the recovery and performance with downloads -- at least on true dual-core (or dual-processor -- although not HyperThreading, which is not the same).

Although I run Linux 64-bit, I run a 32-bit Firefox stack (plug-ins/multimedia) for compatibility. On AIGLX/Compiz, the desktop performance and experience is unbeatable (although Apple has had QuartzExtreme for a lot longer). Vista (of which I'm a beta tester), eat your heart out -- the features out-of-the-box (especially multimedia via MPlayer) and performance is just unbeatable -- even before we talk security (don't get me started).

I haven't tried FFv2 yet, but I've been using FF for years and with never go any other browser. With FireFox in a Linux OS I'm safe as a bug in a rug and never have to worry about history. Goodbye Windoze forever.

:thefinger
