I have a virus (or malware or a trojan or SOMETHING) which LOOKS like a Windows Security update but it's really malware or a virus called "XP Security 2011". I need a free program to get rid of it that does not require a registration code. :dunno:

Start your pc in safe mode with networking (so you can still access the net) and go online and download spybot search and destroy (free) here

and run them immediately. They should find most things and when you restart your pc as normal there should be no problems anymore.
Wound up using Windows Security Essentials. It took care of the problem!

Ever notice some of the usual hacks that visit FOs are conspicuously absent from many of the virus threads and rarely if ever offer input?
Likely is the case some of these dopes are behind some of the attacks and in many cases they're laughing at all of the anti virus advice offered here as many attacks nowadays are impervious/invisible to anything the average user is playing with for protection/detection.
