X-Men:First Class

So did anyone see it this weekend.

I guess that it underperformed that the box office, but don't let that fool you, this is the best comic movie since The Dark Knight.

If you go into it knowing that it's not really connected to the other movies, and it's more or less a "preboot",and that it's NOT 100% true to cannon, then you should really enjoy it.

The directing was very well done, and the acting and character dynamic from Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy was really good.Kevin Bacon's character was pretty good too.

I highly recommend anyone that likes comic movie to check this one out.

4/5 Stars for me.

I'm tired of supporting horse shit that isn't cannon.

I haven't seen the movie yet but my nerd rage is already at defcon 2. I hope it doesn't suck but Hollywood always goes this route:

"Let's take a story everyone loves and wants to see actualized in full living color with real people and change it to make it what we consider cool or trendy at the time."

Then it flops and if you're Michael Bay you blame a writers strike.

When my brother comes to visit and he wants to see it I'll gladly go with a neutral mindset. Until then I remain skeptical.

I had the exact same feelings about this movie, but once you start watching it,and see the character interactions,it really is a good movie that will hopefully make you forget that any of the other movies even happened, including the Wolverine abortion.

While I just don't understand why they didn't have the original lineup in the movie,it actually works for the story that they told this time around.

I saw it. It was complete trash.

There is no way to get over all of the inconsistencies in this one. It would be fantastic if it weren't so fucking far off cannon. If you don't know any better, this movie is a hit... but I do, and it is really shitty to see Angel Salvadore and Darwin (characters who didn't appear in comics until the mid-2000's) in First Class amongst other glaring bullshit.

Overall: 2 out of 5

not gonna watch it. another milking movie. trying to squeeze cash out of a franchise that was supposed to be over. milking the old cash cow is something im not into.

You know they didn't follow the comics exactly but it worked. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5. It's a good start for the series. It has cheesy moments but in the end the movie is enjoyable. Worth a watch to see for yourself.

For the EMPEROR!!
No I haven't seen it yet. Though I'm getting sick of seeing it previewed EVERYWHERE. I think I'll wait till it comes out on the T.V.

Why do people think it's ok to do whatever the fuck they want with an already established franchise? They're using comic book characters to appeal to people who aren't fans of comic books. They should call it What If...because then they'd have an excuse to do whatever they want with whoever they want. I'm surprised Galactus doesn't make an appearance and the Skrulls come down and start extreme skateboarding with red bull shirts on and then Polaris shows up and starts talkin all hip and bein like "Whatsup Dawgs?!?" "don't hate the playa hate the game" and he listens to Ja Rule when he's thinking about telling Storm that he's her son, and Imp is the father.

I watched Priest instead, I heard people screaming at the theater manager who wanting thier money back who walked out on First Class. It would appear that Bryan Singer has put the nails in the coffin the X-men movie franchise is dead and burried. The only thing that will save it is a reboot from a writer and a director who have actually read the comic books, unlike Bryan Singer who would not take any advice from anyone who knew anything about the characters. Word from Avi Arad who apparently still has some say in the X-men film franchise is that he will do a reboot for 2014, if that is true and he can keep Bryan Singer and Disney out of it we may actually get a watchable X-men Movie. I find it ironic that the only X movie to make money at the box office was the only one that Bryan Singer had nothing to do with: Wolverine; you would have thought that Disney would have leared from that.
Icewater who are the 2 babes rubbing asses in your sig?

I stopped buying comics in the early or mid 90s. Still I'm probably a bigger fan of them than 99% of the population in this country...and I have no freaking clue who those people are.

It makes you wonder how people could take something that's beautiful, iconic, works well, is loved and well remembered, and not only do something else but make a mockery of the original for the reason of....just because or something or another.

If I had nerd rage, considering what both Marvel and DC have done (and are going to do) to themselves, their characters, their entire medium, and the artistic integrity of the artwork, they would have to invent a new category of defcon to describe it. What keeps me from that is the fact I just don't know if I can get up the effort to care anymore. I'm at the point where I actually considering writing the whole thing off. They destroyed something I loved about decade and a half ago with their greed and stupidity and now they are destroying even the last vestiges of the good memories I had when comics and comic industry didn't suck with things that are much more stupid than the mistakes they did before. They are doing that instead of making things better like they should do. The movies are pretty much going in the same pattern now that they have put themselves into the mode of milking everything they can out of them. The reason the movies do so well is because of the good will of the old fans of the work that used to love it that support it.

I sometimes wonder how they could possibly take something as good as they had and screw it up that badly.

Could have definitely been worse. Xavier was irritating. 6/10. At least it was done by Marvel.

Searing critique.

Well, I'm not a comic book geek so I don't know or give a shit or know anything about canon or whatever, so seen from that point of view, it was entertaining, interesting peek into the background of both Magneto and Prof. X.

Really? You really think X-men 1st class is the best comic book picture since The Dark Knight? I don't think so. I am going to see this only because it takes place during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

i saw it. it wasnt even close to being as good as the Dark Knight. the only thing that was good was Kevan Bacon lol

It was done by Disney they made the descision to bring back Bryan Singer. Marvel and Fox Fired Singer during X-men 3 because he was not listening to the writers and had already spent the entire budget for the film. I understand a month prior to his fireing Avi Arad told Singer in person to actually read some of the X-men comics as he still had yet to do so.

This is one of my major issues as a Marvel Stock holder even though I only have a minor stake we the shareholders have been outraged at Disney's takeover long before they actually announced it. Disney through their partners sabotaged the Marvel films from the begining causing massive losses and devaluing the stock then when the stock was down they started buying large chuncks of shares then after they had been doing so for 3 years they finally announced their intentions. What does the SEC do, nothing as usual!

& that is who these films are aimed at. Cinema audiences. Regardless of the quality of the movie who cares about hardcore fans boo hooing about the fact that it isn't exactly like the comic book. If you want something exactly like the comic book than stick to the bloody comic book!

I actually like the comics and don't mind in this particular case that they didn't follow canon.

To me,it just edges out the first Ironman because the final showdown in that movie was weak. It's better than The Incredible Hulk, blows doors off of Thor(which I did like), better that Kick-Ass(same director),and makes Ironman 2 look like trash.Am I missing anything else worth noting?

No,but it's better than every other movie that's come out between then and now,and that's what I was saying. And Michael Fassbender was awesome. How could you overlook him?

And what people don't understand is that there are more of them(casual moviegoers) than there are of us(comic fans). If no one but comic nerds watch it,then the movie would be a total financial failure.Basic economics;cater to the largest consumer base.

Aside from that, all of the naysayers are just going to be that and miss out on a pretty good movie.

I guess haters really are gonna hate.
